Defying Forever! Pt. 5
|
Daylight was approaching fast and it seemed even with the speed of a vampire he would not make it back to the subway in time. The sun was now rising in the distance and he was so close.
Staying low among the shadows; even hiding it seemed he could not fight the heat of the sun. The seconds seemed to pass in long agonizing moments as the entrance to the subway came in view.
Pulling together all strength will and speed he ran through the door and shut it in the best way he could.
Stepping on into the abandoned subway he allowed the coolness of the underground flow across his skin. His pale skin had taken on a slight redness from the sun and the heat of it still felt fresh upon his skin.
He shivered. If this was the after effects of not even being fully exposed to the sun then he could see why sun destroyed a vampire upon contact.
Exhaustion seemed to overcome him as he rounded a corner to the small unnoticeable clearing where he had been hiding when the humans had come in. He gently lay upon the floor yawning and before he knew it he was lost in the darkness of sleep and for the first time in his life he dreamt. He dreamt of the frightened girl Anna.
Night seemed to come quickly. Too quickly for Vayden as he woke with stiff muscles and his skin feeling slightly warm. The good news to the matter was that the redness was gone but now it was time to abate the knowing hunger.
Three rats later and fully disgusted he began to pace. He had came out here to experience life outside of the mansion and now here he was stuck in an abandoned subway with only rats for food. This was nothing like what he had planned.
He wanted to know others were like. The ones who could eat normal food and did not hunger for the blood like some savage monster that could only come out at night.
But that was what he was. A monster.
He sighed still pacing. It seemed he had made a mistake in leaving his home. He could now see why the vampire’s lived away like they did. They could never be accepted here even if they did not pre on humans. A vampire did not belong around so many humans.
Footsteps echoed from above and he paused in his pacing. Nobody should be out at this time of night. At least no one had been in all the time he had been here besides those humans who had found their way down here.
His thoughts turned to Anna. What was it about her that kept him so entranced. For just a normal human girl she seemed so different from the others in his eyes.
His thoughts of her had momentarily distracted him from the footsteps that had made their way down the steps and before he had time to react the door to the outside opened and in walked the girl who had so recently held his thoughts.
She stopped when she saw him there.
“I…I didn’t get to thank you properly last night,” she began.
He remained silent staring. Her bright emerald eyes revealed her discomfort and she fidgeted with her hands.
“I really appreciate what you did. You did after all save my life,” she gave a crooked smile.
The smile did something to him as if breaking him from a trance and he smiled in return.
He walked up to her. “It was no trouble,” he glanced up to the door she had left open and the moonlight that shone brightly then returned his gaze to her. He caught her staring and smiled when she quickly looked away.
“Anyway thank you it…”
“Would you like to go for a walk?” he questioned cutting her off.
“What?”
“A walk,” he repeated.
“Now?” she asked unsure.
“What better time than at night when there are no people to get in the way of a peaceful walk and of course there are the stars.”
She looked wary for a moment before smiling and nodding. “But just for a little while. I have to get home before my parents notice I’m gone. I was in a load of trouble when I got home this morning.”
He was silent for a moment until they made it outside and onto the sidewalk. “How old are you Anna?”
“I was nineteen last month. How old are you?”
“How old do you think I am?” he asked gazing up at the stars as they walked.
She thought for a moment. “Twenty?”
“Twenty-one,” he replied. He had been told he looked to be in his early twenties so why not at least make her a little off.
“Cool,” she replied stuffing her hands into the pockets of the leather jacket she wore. He noticed that she now wore regular jeans with a simple black shirt, her pink tipped hair pulled back into a high pony tale.
“Cool?” he questioned.
“Yea, you know as in awesome. It was used a long time ago,” she explained.
“I see,” he replied. What strange words they used for talking.
“Where are we going?” she questioned.
He shrugged. “Wherever out feet lead us I suppose,” he replied and she smiled.
An hour later he liked this girl more and more. There was so much she could possibly teach him.
“Why do you disobey your parents like you do?” he questioned. So far in her stories it had involved sneaking out and doing things she and he both knew her parents would never approve of.
She shrugged. “I really don’t know. I guess it’s just because I can and I feel…freer and not like I’m always under their control.”
“But aren’t you at the proper age of an adult?”
She nodded. “But I still rely on my parents. They want me to go on to collage and get an education but I’m not really sure that’s what I want to do.”
“What do you want to do?” he asked smiling.
“Be in a band,” she proclaimed. “I think that’s what I really want. Singing and playing my own music for people who would love it.”
He was thoughtful. “What instrument do you play?”
She looked at him sheepishly. “None. But I can dream can’t I?” she demanded.
He chuckled. She was a delight to behold. After they had began talking she had grown more comfortable around him and opened up.
“What about you?” she asked. “What do you want to be?”
He frowned. He had never really thought about it. All he had ever known to do was live his existence with his family until…
Well he really did not know.
“I guess you can say I always wanted what you want now.”
“Did you get it?”
“Yes,” he replied.
“And?” she pestered.
“It’s tougher than you think,” he replied not meeting her eyes.
They had stopped at a peer looking out onto a large lake the stars and the moon reflecting upon the water’s surface.
He turned to look at her only to catch her staring at him again. She made to look away but he reached out and grabbed her chin forcing her to look into his eyes.
He could hear he heart beat reflecting clearly throughout his head and her steady breathing suddenly becoming faster.
“You are a fascinating young girl,” he whispered.
She smirked. “I hope that’s a compliment.”
He smiled also. “It is,” he replied before leaning forward and allowing his frigid lips to meet with her warm ones. The smell of both her blood and scent consumed him and the heat beneath his lips became stronger as hers moved beneath his and she wrapped her arms about his neck.
He would have to stop soon before he hurt her. He allowed his lips to linger on hers for another short moment before gently pulling away.
She blinked a few times before finally fully looking at him. He stood and brought her up with him.
“I have to go,” he said simply.
“Now?” she questioned.
He smiled and nodded. “I think it’s time you go home.”
“But…” he placed a finger across her lips silencing her.
“Go.”
“Will I see you again?” she asked.
“Do you want to see me?”
She smiled shyly and looked away muttering yes.
“What?” he asked leaning down slightly as if to hear her better but he had heard her perfectly. “I don’t think I heard you properly.”
She laughed. “Yes I would really like to see you again!”
He chuckled. “Alright how about you meet me here around ten tomorrow night?”
“Alright.”
He leaned forward and lightly touched his lips to hers and as her eyes closed he pulled away and left leaving her standing there wondering how he had gotten away so fast.
