(ALDEN’S P.O.V)
It felt like forever since he had been to the old house. He felt as though he was home. And then he knew this was his home. Ever since he had been young that house with his mother had never bee his home. This was the place he knew he was happy at and would always be. Especially with Clary. He jumped as a bird flew from the rafters and out of the door over Clary’s head. For a brief moment he wanted to laugh at the irony of it all but Clary screamed slightly in surprise and promptly burst into tears.
She buried her face into her hands sobbing uncontrollably. Alden rushed forward and embraced her but he knew how wary she still was so he settled with just rubbing and patting her back in comfort.
“It’s alright Clary. Everything will be alright.”
She looked up then, tears streaking down her flushed cheeks. “I remember,” she whispered. “I remember everything!” this time louder.
“What?” he questioned quietly shock filling his body.
“I remember when we were young. I remember how we met, this house. I remember when you left. I remember our kiss. I remember calling you. I remember running here and I remember what happened!” she looked up, the tears in her eyes causing them to sparkle. “I love you.” She said it in a whisper as if just realizing it for the first time.
Alden was in shock at first. He grabbed her face between his hands and pulled her close. “You really remember Clary? You remember it all?”
She placed her hands over his and nodded. “That’s what I just said!” she exclaimed crying and laughing at the same time.
Tears sprung to his eyes and he laughed as so much joy filled his body. He pulled her to him and held in tightly in a breathtaking kiss. When he pulled back she looked up at him smiling slightly.
“I don’t hear anything in return,” she commented.
He chuckled and wrapped his arms around her pulling her tight against him. “Clary, Clary, Clary,” he repeated shaking his head. “How could you possibly believe that I didn’t love you? I’ve loved you from the first time we met. Do you know how miserable I’ve been without you?”
She shook her head. “I can only remember being miserable after you left. And how bad it hurt me to hear you were with another girl.” She frowned suddenly.
He laughed closing his eyes and shaking his head. “I just saw her the one time and it was the worst time of my life. All I could think about the entire time was you and I think she realized that especially when I called her Clary.”
She laughed but immediately tried to muffle it. “You didn’t?” she whispered.
He smiled. How he had missed her laugh. He placed his forehead against hers. “I love you Clarice Hamilton.”
She wrinkled her nose. She had never been fond of the name Clarice. “I love you too Aldy Archer,” she said smiling and wrapping her arms about his neck.
“Marry me,” he said before he realized what he was saying but as soon as the words left his lips he realized there was nothing that would make him happier than to marry her as soon as possible. He never wanted to be away from her again.
She pulled back. “What?” she asked incredulous.
“Marry me,” he repeated.
“Alden,” she laughed. “I haven’t had my memory back for an hour and you decide now is the best time to ask me.”
He smiled. “Come on. We’re officially adults now and we love each other. There’s nothing more perfect than this. Marry me Clary or…would you rather I got down on one knee?”
She shook her head frantically. “No, no don’t do that but...Alden I don’t think I’m ready. Not yet at least,” she added. “I’m only eighteen and have collage ahead of me and have to learn to depend on myself. Please understand,” she pleaded. He smiled and placed a stray strand of her hair behind her ear. “I understand. Just promise me that you will marry me someday.”
She grabbed his hand and gripped it tightly, smiling. “I promise.”
He sighed. “We need to get you home. Your dad will want to know as soon as possible.”
She nodded then her smiled grew, a sudden playful sparkle lighted her eyes. “Race you there,” she exclaimed before turning and running from the house and into the field.
He laughed and gave her a moment’s head start before running after her and for a moment he felt like the kids they had been when they had first met happy and free with each other.
