(ALDEN’S P.O.V)
Alden rolled over on the soft bed, stretching. He sat up and looked around the room he had been given.
It had been over a week since Clary had waked. Not long after that her father had been given permission from the doctor to take her home even though she knew not where home was. He ran his hands through his hair. When she had been shown her room she had immediately locked herself inside not coming out until hours later.
Both he and Dane had learned to be careful with things they said or places they went with Clary because she would most time burst into tears at the overwhelming emotions of it all. She almost cried more than three times a day.
Alden himself was still not willing to leave her even if she had her father with her, he still wanted to be there hoping that she would remember but still nothing. Dane had allowed Alden to stay in the guest room so he may be there with her everyday and especially during the times in which Dane had to go to work or leave for groceries or other such stuff. Today it was for work.
Alden quickly sat up and gathered some of his clothes and made his way to the bathroom to take a shower. He was going to try something different today. He was not going to give up trying to get Clary to remember. He hoped that this was something that could at least help her remember something.
When he was finished showering and stepped into the kitchen, Clary was sitting at the table already awake. His breath caught. She was wearing the same sky blue dress she had been wearing the day he had kissed her on the swings so long ago. He had forgotten how beautiful she was in it.
She looked up to him and smiled timidly. He smiled in return and sat down across from her at the table. It was then that he noticed the picture she clutched in her hand.
Two six year olds stood arms wrapped around each other. The girl with a large gap in her teeth where her two fronts were missing the young boy’s clothes not matching where he had dressed himself.
Alden smiled at the younger version of them both.
“This is us isn’t it?” she questioned.
He smiled and nodded.
“How long have we been friends?”
He shrugged. “As long as I can remember.”
She frowned looking at the picture again. “Unfortunately I can’t.”
He reached forward to take one of her hands in his. She allowed it now considering she had grown more used to him in the time she had been awake. “You will remember,” he said assuredly. “It just takes time.”
She looked away refusing to meet his eyes.
He jumped up suddenly. “Come on. I have somewhere I want you to go with me.”
She looked unsure about that.
“C’mon it’s not far from here and we’ll just be there a few minutes I promise."
She paused for another moment before finally allowing him to take her hand and Alden could not be any happier in her trust.(CLARY’S P.O.V)
Clary did not know where Alden could possibly be taking her as he led her from the house and into the large, overgrown field that lye ahead.
“Where are we going?” she questioned.
“You’ll see,” he replied pulling her along.
She did not speak the rest of the way still feeling slightly shy around this strange boy who insisted being with her at all times.
It was only moments later when she saw the old house quickly rising in the distance. Alden came to a stop when they came into the slightly tall grass of the yard.
She could see a large gaping hole in the roof of the place and immediately knew where she was. Her breath caught. This was the awful place where she had been hurt. The reason she was like she was. Not remembering anything. Not even knowing what she had been doing on the roof of such an old house in the first place.
“This was where you were hurt at,” said Alden leading her onto the old porch.
She nodded. “I got that much looking at the roof.”
He smiled briefly. “It’s also a very special place for us. This was where you and me used to always stay before I left. It was like a second home to both of us.”
She was silent. Why could she just not remember even the tiniest detail, like an old house being important to her?
Alden opened the door and led her inside. She stopped in the doorframe looking timidly inside at the old dust covered furniture and the debris that lye across the floor from her accident. Alden took a few steps away from her and on into the room.
Suddenly a movement caught her eye and a tiny winged creature flew over her head and out of the door. She let out scream of surprise and suddenly she was consumed by memories.
Memories of the first time she met Alden, of when her father had explained her mother’s death, Alden telling her of his mother’s alcoholism, of building the swing sets, of the moment she realized she loved Alden. She remembered the day Alden had told her she was leaving and the despair she had felt at this. She remembered the first kiss they had shared and how she had made such a fool of herself.
She remembered the day Alden left and the kiss they had shared, of the months she had went by trying to move on without him, of her heart breaking when she had discovered Alden had been with another girl, why she had been on the roof and the pain that had consumed her until darkness had met.
She remembered it all in one time consuming moment and feeling as though she was about to explode she burst into tears. She remembered. She remembered everything.
