it started on a rooftop! pt.11

(CLARY’S P.O.V)
The dark water was pulling her under farther and farther away. She knew not what was happening to her. She was breathing normally but oddly it felt as if there was not enough air.
There was a mingling of voices and a beeping above her head but it was all muffled by the dark water that consumed her very body.
Where was she? What was going on? It all seemed so dreamlike and unreal but surprisingly it was peaceful.
The silence was comforting and warm. She was not frightened by this darkness but instead comforted. A warm feeling of skin connected with her hand. The voice she suddenly recognized as Alden.
He was telling her to wake up that she must wake up. Yes she had to see Alden! He was there waiting for her but the murky mire held her down not ready to release her from its prison. She struggled and fought but nothing worked. She was stuck with the darkness until it allowed her freedom. Allowed her to see Alden one more time.
(ALDEN’S P.O.V)
“Come on Clary, wake up,” he whispered rubbing his thumb gently across the knuckles of her limp hand.
As soon as her father had uttered those words over the phone his heart had stopped for a moment. The phone had dropped from his numb fingers and he was not mentally or physically capable of bending down and picking the phone up to speak to her father. His father immediately concerned had picked the phone up for him and talked to hers.
He knew now for how long they spoke for Alden had made his way to his room and packed all of his things. By time his father had hung up Alden was fully packed and was bringing his bags from his room.
“I’ve already booked your flight,” his father had said. “You leave in an hour.” He was thankful that his father understood the crucial need of getting back when Clary was hurt. She was the most important thing in his life and he could not leave her alone when she was going through something like this or if she might…no! He would not think the word. Instead he would focus on getting to her as quick as possible.
Alden had nodded and in that hour his father drove him to the airport and he was boarding the plane back home.
He had come straight from the airport to the hospital where he had found Clary’s father in the waiting room looking haggard and tired. A week’s worth of facial hair growth across his face and dark circles under his eyes.
The doctors had been with Clary at that moment but within the next hour he had been permitted entrance into her room and told her father to go on home to get some rest and now here he sat gazing at the girl he loved.
It hurt his very soul to see Clary like this. Her cheeks were sunken in and dark circles lye under he eyes. I.V’s ran from both arms and tubes ran everywhere. The constant and steady beeping echoed throughout the silent room of her monitor. A thick white bandage was wrapped tightly around the top of her head where the wound was and her dark black hair was splayed out across her pillow.
“I hate seeing you like this Clary. Please wake up,” he whispered feeling the oncoming of tears but he fought them down. He should have never left, he thought. If he hadn’t of left then he would have never asked that other girl out and Clary would not have went out to the house without him and she would never be where she was now.
Life was so unfair sometimes. Her eyes twitched beneath her lids but he did not get excited by this movement for the nurses had already informed him of the reflexes that were common in people who were in commas.
One other thing he also knew was that most comma patients could hear when a loved one spoke to them.
“You remember when we first met Clary and you told me the old house was haunted?” beginning with that he continued to tell her about the first time they met and many other childhood memories they held together hoping and praying with all his might that she could hear him and the memories make her want to wake up. Want to fight whatever was keeping her from waking.
“Do you remember that time I didn’t tell you I love you and I should have?” he whispered brokenly. The tears broke free and coursed down his cheeks. “I love you Clary,” he continued to repeat this over and over. Leaning forward he kissed her lightly across her cheek, careful of her wounds.
Still clutching her hand he laid his head down onto the bed before finally breaking down and allowing all the emotions within him to explode into the tears that flowed endlessly down his cheeks.
Twenty minutes later, fully composed once again he was just in the middle of relaying the story of when they had had their own fire and made s’mores at the house and she had gotten a melted marshmallow all entangled in her hair when they were fourteen when her father came in wearing a fresh change of clothes and his hair damp from a recent shower.
“I tried to rest but I couldn’t,” admitted Dane. “Not when my baby was here like this.”
Alden nodded and they both for the next hour sat at her side in companionable silence waiting and hoping for Clary to wake.
Alden could feel himself dozing off as his lids began to sag and his head bent forward. The door burst open and in walked a tall broad man wearing a white scrub with a clipboard in his hand.
“Hello, I’m doctor Radcliff,” he greeted them both. “Are you the patient’s family?”
“I’m her father and Alden here is just a very good friend of the family,” Clary’s father explained.
The doctor nodded and glanced at the papers on the clipboard once more before holding it under his arm and sighing. “Clarice has a very different situation right now. I’m going to try to put this in a way that it makes it better understanding for you. With cases similar to hers there is a seventy percent chance that she will not remember anything.”
Alden inhaled sharply.
“What are you saying?” questioned Dane as if he could not fully comprehend what the doctor was saying.
“When or If your daughter wakes, she will have no recollection of who either of you are. She won’t remember you.”
