“Vampire hunters!” exclaimed Elizabeth.
Elva nodded feeling her heart crack at the sight of Elizabeth’s tears.
“How could they…when do…Delandron?”
Elva stepped forward and hugged her tight. “Maybe you should go speak with Demetris alone and get all the details. I only got the short version before coming to talk to you. I knew how bad you wanted to know.”
Elizabeth nodded pulling back. “Yes, I’ll go speak with him now.”
“I’ll wait here until you’re done.”
Elizabeth continued nodding as she walked from the large study which Elva had found her in minutes before.
When Elizabeth left Elva brought her wings out and grabbed one to begin fidgeting with it. Once she had gotten used to making her wings appear and disappear she had went out to learn to use them.
It had taken her three weeks and many injuries before she finally began to fly. It was now making her hunting much easier and at times like these when she had a lot on her mind or was nervous she fidgeted with them. With stroking them absently with her hand or just flickering them back and forth.
Knowing how uncomfortable it was to sit in a chair with her wings out she gracefully sat herself onto the floor crossing her legs and wrapping her wings around her to stroke the soft black feathers.
Amazing. If someone had told her a few months ago that she would eventually become and marrying a vampire only to develop wings and have many vampire children…she would have checked that person into the closest mental institution for the psychotically challenged.
An hour later found her still in the study shuffling randomly through the books when the sounds of footsteps at the end of the hall met her ears. She ignored them thinking it could be anyone heading for any room considering the hall was lined with them.
The footsteps continued until they stopped at the door to the study she was in. The door opened and thinking it was Elizabeth returning she did not turn. “Did you,” she began after a moment of silence about to turn when she was grabbed about her waist and gently but forcefully turned and pressed into the bookshelf behind her.
Demetris stood looking down at her an annoyed expression across his face but behind the annoyance she saw a glimpse of joy in his eyes.
She looked down guiltily thinking of how she had told him of her pregnancy but he tilted her chin up and forced her eyes to lock with his.
“You know you’re lucky I didn’t come after you when you slammed that door in my face,” he said.
She remained silent but smiled at the thought of his expression when he had heard the words and the door immediately shutting.
His hand came down atop her abdomen. “A baby?” he whispered a look of disbelief replacing the annoyance.
She nodded.
He gave out a loud whoop before grabbing her about the waist, pulling her against him and spinning happily.
She laughed thrilled that he was so happy.
He stopped and returned her to the ground still holding her close. His hand placed itself upon her cheek as he gazed at her with an expression she could not read.
“I love you,” he whispered quietly.
Her head snapped up sharply and her eyes widened. “What?”
“I love you,” he replied smiling.
She shook her head and pulled away not believing her ears. She took a few steps away her back turned to him, her thoughts in turmoil. “You just said that because you’re happy about the baby.”
Could he love her? She knew she herself was beginning to feel things for him that she had never thought possible. But who could not care for someone like him? He was sweet, thoughtful, funny, maybe a little egotistical or sometimes a pompous ass but still…and with a burst of realization all the feeling in her body seemed to rush through her at once and she knew it then that she loved him. Loved him more than any man she had ever dared to get close to. Loved him more than the love she hoped to find.
She heard him chuckle behind her and come up to grab her again but this time he picked her up in a bridal style. “No my dearest love Elva. I love you because you’re beautiful, not only on the outside. I love you because you took this all so easily, you may have refused it at first when you were human but once you were changed you accepted it all as if it was nothing. I love you because you’re now going to be the mother of my child. I love you because you are so caring to all the others here, especially my mother,” he swung her back and forth as he named each one off. “I love you because when we…” she placed her hand across his lips cutting off his words already knowing where that was going.
He smiled playfully and kissed her finger tips. “Shall I continue?” he questioned.
She smiled. “I have something to say also.”
His smile grew. “What?”
“I didn’t take the whole vampire thing as calmly as you think! And you came mighty close to having a runaway bride.”
He frowned his b row furrowing. “Is that all you have to admit?” he demanded. “You know I just professed my love here and all you can tell me is how I almost didn’t have a bride!”
She laughed and wrapped her arms tightly about his neck. “Well how about that I love you too?”
“You do now do you?” he questioned. She didn’t believe his smile could get any wider.
She nodded.
“Well in that case…” he pulled her tightly against him and his lips came down upon hers with an intensity that she had never felt from him before. Her breath caught and her arms came up to wrap tightly around his neck and pull him closer to deepen the kiss. She felt the vibration of his lips from his laughter and he happily complied with the deepening quality.
When they broke apart he kept her close to him and her arms remained firmly wrapped around his neck. His brow placed against hers.
“I love you,” he repeated.
“I love you too,” she whispered before their lips met again and for a moment she forgot all about the new threat and the danger that would soon be upon them all.
