Pregnant…the word echoed throughout Elva’s mind.  She knew she would have to have children but she had not expected it to happen this fast.  

           

     She was with Elizabeth in her room…she laying on her bed feeling like she was about to die with pains shooting through her body but these were not hunger pains and Elizabeth sitting in a chair next to the bed wiping Elva’s brow with a damp cloth looking happier than the day of the wedding. 

           

     “You know once you fully realize your pregnant is when the pains really hit you,” pointed out Elizabeth smiling. 

     

     Elva moaned in pain.  “I can see that!”

           

     Elizabeth chuckled.  Her perky and happy mood was really beginning to anger Elva.         

           

     “But do not worry, after a while the pain goes away and all that you have to worry about is how much bigger your stomach shall be.”

           

     Elva closed her eyes in exhausted.  Never had she felt so weak and tired…well except for when Demetris had changed her but mingling with this was the pain. 

           

     “Oh and there’s the fact that you will want to sleep most of the time, except for the times when your hunting.”

           

     “I think I’ll just take a small nap…” Elva sighed proving Elizabeth’s point in wanting to sleep. 

           

     Elizabeth chuckled quietly and stood leaving the cloth on the nightstand.  “I will check on you in an hour or two.  And don’t forget to tell me when you tell Demetris…he’ll be so happy.”

           

     “MmmHmm,” replied Elva already half asleep. 

           

    Elizabeth smiled down at her daughter-in-law before quietly leaving her to her sleep.                         

           

     Elva snapped from sleep when the strong scent of blood encased her.  Her eyes snapped open to realize that she was still alone.  She was about to sit up when the door burst open and Demetris limped through the door clutching at his side. 

           

     Elva jumped up and out of the bed to rush to his side fighting the hunger that the smell evoked. 

           

     A long gash marred the beauty of his side leaking fresh blood staining the green shirt he wore.  Another wound made its way from his elbow and to the middle of his arm.

           

     “What happened?” she demanded. 

           

     He just shook his head and collapsed into one of the large plush chairs.  She immediately crouched down in front of him to rip the material of his shirt away from his wound.    

           

     She gazed at the sight it presented, blood flowing down his side in small rivulets, the skin around it shriveling and black as if he had been burnt.   

           

     “I need to get help,” she said standing and running with all her might from the room.

           

     An hour later found Elva talking to Elizabeth in hushed tones while Demetris lay sleeping on the bed his wound freshly sewn together and already at the beginnings of healing. 

           

     “I want to know how this happened! And where is Delandron?” Elizabeth demanded furious.

           

     Elva sighed. “He didn’t say anything when he came in and by time I got someone here he was passed out.”

           

     Elizabeth shook her head in frustration.  “I feel like something terrible has happened to Delandron,” she then turned her gaze to Elva and switched subjects obviously taking her mind from Delandron to help ease her stress.  “How are you feeling dear?”

           

     Elva smiled.  “The pains have eased up and I no longer feel like I want to die but I do feel like I could sleep another year or two but the truth is I completely forgot about being pregnant when I saw Demetris.”

           

     Elizabeth smiled and patted her cheek.

           

      “Why don’t you go do something to distract yourself and as soon as he wakes I’ll ask him about Delandron and send for you okay?” suggested Elva.

           

     Elizabeth nodded the worried expression not leaving her face.  “Alright.  As soon as he wakes send for me please?”

           

     Elva nodded her agreement.   

           

     Elva stood gazing down at her husband for a moment after Elizabeth had left.  What had gotten him injured so and why was he keeping something from her. 

           

     As she looked down at his peaceful face she felt at odd sense of protectiveness and another feeling she was not familiar with.  With sudden realization coursing through her she grasped the fact that she was falling in love with him.  She had never thought it to be possible but she was. 

           

     She walked around to the other side of the bed to crawly to his.  She rested her head on his chest cautious of his wounds and minutes later she was asleep again. 

           

     When she woke again she knew it was not the next night and that Demetris was also awake.  His hand slowly caressed her arm, the touch of his skin still sending shivers down her spine.  Her head still rested upon his chest and when her eyes snapped open she was gazing into the dark depths of his eyes. 

           

     “Hello,” he murmured a lazy smile playing across his lips.

           

     “Hello,” she replied sitting up.  “How are you feeling?”

           

     “Good as new!” he exclaimed sitting also and stretching out his arms. 

           

     Elva’s brow furrowed in worry.  “What happened Demetris? Where’s your father?”

           

     He sighed and looked away. 

           

     “Tell you what?” she began a sudden idea occurring to her.  “I have something important I need to tell you but the only way ill tell you is if you truthful to me and tell me what had been going on.”

           

     “You have something to tell me?”

           

     She nodded thinking of the baby.  “But I won’t tell you a word of it until you tell me what happened.”

           

     He sighed and ran his hand through his black hair giving it a more rumpled look.  “A couple weeks ago dad heard rumors of vampire hunters seen in the wood from other vampires.  He asked me to help him watch out for any possible threats and never allowing any vampire to hunt alone.  Today we met these vampire hunters.  They attacked us.  One of them had a silver dagger which is what wounded me and unfortunately they got dad.  I barely got away and the problem is I don’t know where they took him and I’m afraid of what they may do to him.”

           

     She gasped.  “But I thought the mansion was well hidden.  How did they find it?”

           

     “They didn’t.  They were in the woods and got us off guard while we were hunting.  That’s the time when we’re at our weakest.  We don’t pay attention to our surroundings but just to our prey.”

           

      Elva stood from the bed her thoughts in turmoil.  “I need to tell Elizabeth.  She was worried to death before she left.  I promised I would get her when you woke.  She'll want to talk to you right away.”

           

     She was almost to the door when his hands caught her around her waist and turned her to look at him. 

           

     “I told you what you wanted to know, now what was it you needed to tell me?”

           

      She smiled opened the door and stepped out.  “I’m pregnant,” she then shut the door in on his shocked expression before hurryingly making her way down the hall and to Elizabeth’s room thinking to herself she probably could have handled that better.
