“Ability?” Elva questioned lightly stroking one of the feathered wings that were wrapped around her shoulders.
“Yes,” said Elizabeth smiling happily stepping forward. “I told you that I had the ability to read people easily and now it appears that yours is flying. I am a bit surprised that you would develop it so quickly.”
Elva was silent thinking. Demetris came forward to crouch down in front of her. He tilted her face up for her eyes to meet his. “Are you alright?” he asked quietly.
She smiled. “Yes, but just a little shocked.”
He smiled also, relief evident in his face. “How about you come with me and meet some of your new family. Their all curious about you. I guess I left them with a lot of questions when I came in with you unconscious in my arms.”
Elva nodded and slowly and testing brought her wings back to fold behind her back before accepting Demetris’s outstretched hand.
When she stood her eyes connected with his and all thoughts of wings vanished from her mind and immediately focused on his beauty that left her breathless. Was she ever going to become accustomed to it?
His eyes glanced to her back and they widened. “My, my,” he said.
“What?” she questioned, turning her head as far as possible to see her wings. She saw nothing. She reached her hand backward to rub against her back but all she felt was the smooth expanse of leather of her dress showing not signs that there were ever any wings at all.
She raised her questioning gaze to find Elizabeth smiling even broader at her. “Well that’s a relief for sure. Now you do not have to worry about them being there twenty-four seven. I say they would become quiet a nuisance after a while.”
“You mean they will come and go at random moments?”
“No. I believe just when you want them.”
“You just have to get used to it. You’ll learn,” Elizabeth reassured her.
Demetris smiled at her and pulled her along with him. “Enough about wings! You can come with me to see the mansion.”
With that she happily followed behind him.

The third night of her change came quickly. She slept through the day and in the night of her second awakening Demetris took her out to teach her to hunt. She had been slightly disgusted when she had caught her first animal but just like with Demetris, when the smell of the blood flowing through the animal’s body had wafted up to meet her nose she had eagerly fed upon the creature.
It was taking her a while to become not so disgusted at herself but if she did not feed right away the hunger pains became real spikes of pain throughout her body and the blood always gave relief to her body.
She once attempted to fly but that had not ended well with her managing to get a few feet into the air before plummeting to meet the earth once again. Demetris had laughed amusedly and she had joined along not being able to be angry at him but she had not tried again.
She was also still trying to get used to sleeping during the day and waking at night. It was all so unnerving.
On the third night that she woke, she was not greeted by the knock on the door of Demetris but instead by the eager and excited greeting of Elizabeth who Elva had also spent much of her time with. She had discovered a friendship in Elizabeth she had not expected. She had been through what Elva was going through now and understood everything Elva was feeling despite the fact she could read people easily.
Elizabeth was fun and always energetic and happy. More so on this day than others.
“Get up! Get up!” she shouted gleefully. “It’s time to wake, my future daughter!”
Elva rolled over and covered her head with the covers.
The covers suddenly disappeared from the entire bed. Elva jumped up quickly, feeling slightly dizzy from rushing up in the unnatural speed of a vampire.
“I’m up!”
“Good! Now I have some of the other women bringing the dress later after you have fed and taken a shower. Today I will be going on your hunt with you considering I will not allow Demetris within thirty feet of you until the wedding.”
Elva nodded already feeling the slight spasm of hunger in her stomach.
Elva dressed quickly using the vampire speed and together Elizabeth and Elva made their way out to the forest that surrounded the mansion where they quickly had their daily meal.
Elva looked down at the dead deer she had just killed and grimaced. It was better than hunting for humans she guessed before turning to see Elizabeth emerge from the trees wiping any drops of blood from around her mouth.
She smiled. “Don’t worry, you may have stolen its body but its spirit runs free.” She patted her shoulder reassuringly.
Out of the corner of her eye Elva saw something white flash by and she turned her head quickly to see nothing. She turned back to Elizabeth who was gazing at her curiously. Elizabeth shot from her trance and her smile returned even broader than before.
“Now come on. We have to get you ready for your wedding!”
Thirty minutes later found her seated in front of a vanity table Elizabeth had had brought in and her hair being continually yanked by Elizabeth who had decided she had wanted to do her future daughter’s hair for her wedding.
Genevieve, Marie, Laura (three other women vampires she had met her first night) were also in the room helping her get ready.
Marie came forward with a box of make-up in her hands.
“Vampires wear make-up?” she questioned with a grimace. She had never been much for make-up herself.
“Oh just a little lip stick,” said Elizabeth combing through the damp tangles in her hair.
“And eye liner and mascara to bring out her eyes!” put in Genevieve who was currently perched upon the bed taking care of final touches to the deep red wedding gown.
“Yeah,” agreed Elizabeth and Laura.
Elva groaned to herself. She was about to be married to man she had not known even a month and they were definitely not making things easier with all this primping and pampering.
Elizabeth merely laughed and turned on the hair dryer that Marie had handed to her. For the next hour Elva sat there while they deftly and expertly traced her eyes in the black eye liner and coated her eyelashes with the mascara. Then colored her lips with the blood red lipstick.
Elizabeth had just begun to take down the curls when a knock sounded on the door.
“Who is it?” questioned Elizabeth taking the final curler from her hair.
“Your husband” replied Delandron opening the door and peeking his head inside. “Ladies you have one hour.”
“Alright, alright!” said Elizabeth fluffing out the curls.
He left just as quickly as he came.
Genevieve brought the dress forward smiling brightly and proudly. “It's time to dress the bride!”
Elva was in pure torture. It took them good thirty minutes to finish with all the lacings and zipping of the dress. Not to mention the corset that was currently smothering her.
Finally everything was in place. Even the matching red veil and shoes.
“You look wonderful!” exclaimed Elizabeth as they made their way to the stairs that led to the grand hall which would be the way to walk down to meet her future husband.
Her stomach flip flopped as the top of the stairs came into view. Elizabeth grabbed her arm and ordered the other girls to make their way on down to their seats. Once they were gone Elizabeth turned to her and smiled encouragingly. “Deep breath,” she said.
Elva did so suddenly feeling slightly panicked.
“Here you’ll need these,” Elizabeth handed Elva a bouquet of white roses. Elva began to feel sudden panic well up inside of her. She was about to marry a man she barely knew.
But who wouldn’t want to marry a man as beautiful as him? And as wonderful?
“Elva I know right now you feel like your making the biggest mistake in your existence. I did too when I stood in the exact place your standing right now. But let me tell you,” she said turning to look at the top of the stairs before returning her gaze to Elva. “It will all be worth it in the end.” She gave her a light hug.
“See you in a few minutes!” she exclaimed before strolling happily to the top of the stairs and making her way down where many of the vampire awaited.
When the comforting presence of Elizabeth was gone, the panic seemed to become worse. She found it difficult to breath and all of her heart had begun a rampage in her chest. Well…if she still had a heart that beat…
When beautiful elegant and very old sounding music drifted up to meet her ears signaling that it was time for her to move she remain frozen in the same spot and for a brief moment thought about running.
But as her thoughts came back to Demetris and his beautiful face all thoughts of running vanished.
She slowly made her way to the top of the stairway thinking to herself…here comes the vampire bride!
