“I know how you are feeling right now although I must say you are handling things much better than I did when it first happened to me,” said Elizabeth.
She had begun speaking once the men had disappeared behind the door. Elva turned to her.
“What do you mean?” asked Elva.
Elizabeth smiled. “I was one of you. A woman born of that special blood. The last one in three hundred years and the one where something went wrong.”
“What happened?”
“No one knows. I gained my one power and then I became pregnant. Everything was going like it was supposed to. Then I had Demetris and I could not have been happier. Even though I had been changed into a vampire against my will, I was with the man I loved and we had a child but when we attempted at the next one months passed and still nothing. Months turned to a year and time continued on and I finally accepted the fact that something had happened and I would have no more children but I was consent with Demetris even though I would have loved to have had more.”
Elva had so many questions for the woman who had been through what she was going through at that moment. “You and Demetris keep mentioning something about a power. I don’t understand.”
“Well you see, something in our body gives us some sort of different ability when we are changed. It could take a few days to develop or it could even take years but it does develop. Mine was the ability to read people easily and at this moment I can tell that inside you are just a jumbled mess of confusion but your trying to stay strong and deal with what is happening to your life.”
Elva just stared. She was right. Elva was so confused and so lost she felt as though she would explode at any moment but she did not want to reveal any of her stress by appearing calm and strong for herself.
Elizabeth’s smile broadened and she slowly came forward and placed her hands on her shoulders. “I understand Elva. When I first came here I was furious, confused and distressed but trust me when I say it will all work out in the end,” she paused, her eyes flickering quickly to the door the men were behind. “I would love to talk more but I believe the men are finished with their discussion and will be joining us shortly. How about just you and I spend some time together tomorrow to discuss some things?”
Elva nodded and smiled realizing that this woman Elizabeth could end up being a very good friend. At that moment the door opened and both men came strolling out looking as though some major problem had just been solved.
Elva stepped back as Elizabeth’s hands disappeared from her shoulders.
“Elva,” began Demetris walking up to her. “If you do not mind, I think that we should go upstairs and discuss a few things.”
She nodded before sparing one more glance to Elizabeth who was now happily standing next to her husband and accepting Demetris’s outstretched hand.
A word was not spoken until they had reached the room she has awoken in.
She seated herself in the red chair she had sat in earlier as he closed the door behind them. He began to pace.
“I meant to introduce you to them and then maybe distract them enough to where they would not mention the fact that we were to be married but leave it to my parents let that be the first thing they mention besides their names.” He smiled at her.
“Your mother is wonderful,” she murmured.
“Yea, I think so too. But anyway about the fact that you and I are to be married…”
She interrupted him. “Right now I want to know why you just didn’t tell me in the first place?”
He sighed and sat down onto a matching red settee. “Well I did tell you when I first told you of the vampires. I told you that the woman who possessed the special type of blood would be married to the prince of the vampires. You just weren’t paying attention.”
She scowled at him.
He chuckled. “You know you’re taking all of this much better than I thought you would. When you first woke up I thought you would be angry. Screaming and breaking things but except for that punch you gave me you’ve been really calm throughout all of this.”
She shrugged not thinking of no proper explanation.
A sudden look crossed his face that she could not read. He stood and slowly walked toward her. She gulped.
He grabbed her quickly around her waist and pulled her up to stand on her feet before wrapping his arms tightly around her pulling her closer.
“I think you are so calm because you like me,” he whispered bringing one of his hands up to play with her hair.
She snorted. “In your dreams.”
He smiled at her and grabbed the back of her neck to force her to look him in the eyes. It was then that she realized that she really wanted to know what it would be like to kiss him.
And as she stood there staring at his beautiful dark eyes she realized she just might get to find out. As if by some invisible force their faces drew closer until their foreheads were touching.
“You’re going to marry me,” he whispered.
Her eyes had closed. “Do I have a choice?”
She could hear the smile in his voice when he spoke. “No but it’s nice to know that you like me too.”
Her eyes flew open. Too? “Who says…” she was about to protest his assumption when his lips met hers. She felt an electric shock course down her spine as her arms came up to wrap tightly around his neck to pull him closer.
She began to feel emotions she was not prepared to fell. His lips moved deftly across hers and shivered but this time not in fear.
They ended the kiss as if in mutual agreement and just stood staring at one another.
Maybe being a vampire would not be as bad as she had first thought…
