If Elva wanted to protest or even fight the fact that he was dragging her along behind him she could not possibly find it in herself to do anything at that moment but follow him. She knew she was most likely in shock. She had just been what she considered killed, her friend thought she had run off to get married, she no longer had her job or even the apartment she had grown used to any longer. Now she was here and they were depending on her to keep a race of monsters alive!
No matter what, she told herself, she would remain strong throughout this whole thing until she could accept the face that she had been changed into a…a…a vampire.
He suddenly turned right and down another long hall way. When they reached the end of the hallway it opened up into large room. She gazed up in wonder at the large room, the glass chandelier hanging high up from the ceiling, large candles lighting the room in their warm glow.
She gazed down the long stone steps. They looked like the stairs that had been in Charlotte’s home in Gone with the Wind except without the carpet covering them.
Demetris led her down the long staircase, to wait at the bottom.
“What is this place?” she questioned still gazing around in wonder.
“My home,” he replied simply. “They will be down to meet us shortly.”
“Who exactly am I meeting?” she asked finally retuning her gaze to him.
“The king and queen of the vampires.”
“What!?”
He shrugged. “I guess you can say they’re really eager to meet the new girl.”
“Why?”
He was about to reply when he was suddenly interrupted by someone else.
“Demetris! We finally get to meet her at last,” said a man who was walking down the stairway toward them. He was tall with dark brown hair and extremely dark eyes like Demetris’s. He also wore an out fit similar to Demetris’s except that his pants and jacket were a dark red so dark that it was nearly black but it was east to see the reddish tint in the clothes.
He came forward smiling broadly and swept Elva into a tight embrace. An odd metallic smell wafted up to her nose.
He pulled back and gazed deeply into her face. “You have no idea how happy I am to finally meet the woman who…”he was cut off when the sound of approaching footsteps could be heard.
Elva looked up the stairway to see no one but still the footsteps could be heard. It was another few seconds before a woman arrived at the top of the stairs before hastily making her way down to them.
The woman was tall with long flowing black hair and eyes a smoky green color. She wore a simple but elegant silk gown the same dark red of the man’s. She appeared to be no older than twenty six but here she knew it was most likely that both the man and she were over hundreds of years old.
“Is this her?” she questioned.
Both Demetris and the man nodded. She broke out into a broad grin like the man held. She came forward and hugged Elva laughing happily.
She pulled back still smiling; Elva slightly overwhelmed by both of their warm welcomes. Demetris stood to the side smiling amusedly. “I am Elizabeth,” greeted the woman.
“And I am Delandron,” said the man pulling the woman to his side, wrapping his arm around her waist in obvious affection. “And we are the rulers here but I believe you already know that.”
She nodded even though in truth she had not known it. She would never have believed that a king and queen would be so…well friendly. “I’m Elva,” she replied smiling politely feeling awkward.
“We are so glad to finally meet our son’s betrothed,” said Amelia smiling at Demetris who had suddenly came forward as if to stop her from saying what she was about to say.
Her breathing stopped for a moment. “E-Excuse me?”
“Your betrothal to Demetris. He has not explained it to you?” questioned Delandron, a look of shock across his face.
“No he has not,” said Elva turning to Demetris glaring at him with as much intensity as she could. He was the prince! And she was supposed to marry him! When had this become part of the plan? “What does he mean Demetris?” she asked.
He avoided her gaze before walking up to his father and grabbing his arm. “I need to talk to you father. Alone.”
His father gazed at him; anger obvious in his expression before nodding and walking toward a large oak door.
“Keep her company for me will you?” he asked looking at his mother.
She nodded and he along with his father disappeared behind the oak door.
Great now her life had turned completely upside down. She no longer had a job (even thought she had not liked the job all that much in the first place) she would most likely never see her friend again; she would no longer experience a day of sunlight. She had been changed into a creature that up until twenty four hours ago she had believed were noting but fiction and discovered that they expected her to have all these children to keep their existence alive and now she was supposed to marry a man she had known no longer than a week.
But for a brief moment she wondered what a vampire wedding would be like.
