The Know 6
|
I sat down next to the employee where he lie on the street, trying to keep my composure and not end up like the people running down the street. Slowly I let my head fall back onto the trolley wondering what to do next. I can’t just sit here, that’s the worst possible thing to do. Nothing… that is what got our country into this mess in the first place. No one ever stood up and said NO. No I will not conform. No you will not put a camera on every street corner. NO YOU WILL NOT put tracking devices in every new born child and anyone who walks the streets of America, but its to late to protest now isn’t it. I pulled my head back up and got off the ground, and just then I noticed a small strip of plastic underneath my right shoe. Immediately I realized what it was as I bent down to pick it up. It was the note from the Supreme Ruler that I had ripped up earlier, but if I had ripped it up why was it perfectly intact. I looked at it closely and read it again to make sure that it wasn’t a different note. Sure enough it said “The Supreme Ruler would like to schedule a meeting with you at 2pm tomorrow. Please present this at the door of the New White House for access to be granted. “ What is going on? I was sure I had torn this in half. There was an eerie feel to the air as I read it again. Of course the world I live in has always been a little strange, but something was very different. I felt alone. The silence of the streets had never bothered me too much, but now… it did. I looked up and down the street, everyone had disappeared into the large city. Where I don’t know. What I do know is that something or someone wants me to go to the White House tomorrow, and I know for a fact something important is going to happen. I’ve never felt so sure about anything. Its as if I had been in a fog and now… I can see. I turned towards the boy lying on the ground. He’s still breathing so that’s good, before I could bend over to wake him something else caught my eye. I started walking slowly backwards, staring intensely at the side of the trolley. A bright red 11 was printed on the side of it. I’m not sure why I think this to be odd, but I don’t believe it was there before. Why would they print a red 11 on the side of a trolley, an advertisement would make more sense. Suddenly I heard the employee gasp, snapping me out of my focus on the side of the bus. He sat up and touched his face with his hand. “Are you ok?” He asked looking up at me. “Am I ok? More like are you ok?” “Yeah I think so.” He said getting to his feet shakily. “Why are you standing so far away?” He asked confused. I looked back at the side of the trolley, but there wasn’t a number 11 anymore, there was just an advertisement for a brand of tooth paste. Noticing that I was looking at the trolley behind him he freaked out a little and ran over to me. “What!? What’s behind me?” He said as he ran over to my side. “Uh nothing I guess.” He looked over at me giving me a weird look. “What is it about you?” He said after a brief moment of silence. “What do you mean?” “Ever since I met you I’ve had this strange feeling, and weird crazy things have been happening.” A strong cool breeze came down the street to our right. I turned to look down that side of the street, as did he. “What’s your name?” “Riley.” He said as if he was out of breath. “Okay Riley, you may find this crazy but I’m going to tell you anyway. I think fate has brought us together, as corny as it sounds, for a reason. And I think that has some sort of meaning.” I said looking back over at the bus. The number 11 had reappeared on the side of the trolley. “Girl, I think I believe you.” He said backing up slightly as he noticed the side of the trolley. Another strong breeze came down the street. “We have to go now!” He said looking around.
