"And now for today's traffic report..."
Slowly I sit up, squinting from the bright light shining in through the window to my left. I turn to shut off the alarm clock which says 6:30am.
"Great the first day of school" I say as I step out of bed.
Ever since Jarrets accident I havent spoken to him. Which is causing me to not want to go to school. On a regular day I wouldn't have wanted to go anyway, but its just making it worse. Considering he was my only friend... but... I was his only friend too, so mabey there's still time. I'll start talking to him on the bus mabey we will click again! I quickly pull on my black plaid pants and run down stair excited by the idea.
"Here's breakfast honey... don't get use to it though." my mom says as i eye up the overflowing plate of pancakes.
"Ha Ha wow the beggining sounded good but you ruined it with the don't get use to it."
"Well I thought it would be nice for your first day of school."
I shoved them down in les than 2 minutes and drank the milk as i walked out the door. Leaving the cup on the porch.
"Hey wait!" my mom yelled.
"Whats the big hurry? Your bus doesn't come for another 15 minutes!" as she came running out the door camera in hand.
So much for getting to the bus stop early to talk to Jarret the second he got there.
"Ugh... mom do we have to take picture every year? Isn't that what school pictures are for?"
"No, now stand over by the tree."
I posed for three pictures then took off down the street to the buss stop at the corner. Once I reached my destionation I looked down at one of the many watches i was wearing on my left arm.
"6:50" I say aloud.
Wow I made better time than I thought. I hope Jerret rides the bus today. Time seems to pass slowly, I look down to find the time. 6:55.
"Well hello, I'm Jerret have we met?"
I look up to see him standing in front of me. He was wearing his normal attire thankfully he hadent forgotten who he was.
"Uhm hello?" Jerret said with a confused look on his face.
"Oh uh, hi! Sorry." I said shyly, forgetting to speak before.
"Well I'm Jarret and you are?"
"Afya." I say hesitantly.
Something in me stopped me from telling him who I was, and what we shared. I turned around nervously and waited for the bus to arrive. I could feel him starring at me. This is one of the reasons I could never make friends, I'm always shy, and never know what to say.
Finally I saw the bus, it slowly rolled to a stop in front of me. I climbed on and sat in the first empty seat I saw. Then I noticed Jarret standing beside my seat.
"Can I sit with you?" he said in a small voice.
"Yeah sure!" I said, scooting in a bit further.
Then it hit me this is the exact same way we met in kindergarten. Although my mom and his mom had been friends since highschool, they never introduced us.
"You see I don't really remember who my friends were." he said looking around the bus.
"Oh really?" I said.
"Why?"
"I had some brain tumors and when they removed them, I could only remeber my family and my neighbors, but not my friends."
"Wow." was all I could manage to say.
We talked all the way to school, about life and our thoughts about people. He seemed to be able to remeber the mean preps and everything about school his opinions on things... just not me.
"So were do you live? You must live close to me because you were at my bus stop."
"Oh, yeah I live right next to you."
He looked confused for a second, but then he started to talk again about his operation.
