I burst through the hospital doors, and jog up to the main desk.

"I'm here to see Jerret Ice." I manage to spit out, breathing hard.

"Oh, I'm sorry he's currently undergoing sergury. The waiting room is right through those doors."

She pointed to the doors across the hall.

   "Kay thanks."

I walked throught the doors, and on the far wall sat my mom holding Jerrets mom's hand. I walked over and sat down next to my mom. Ah what a relief to sit down.

I turn to face my mom.

"Mom...whats wrong with Jerret?" I say as calmly as I can.

"He has a brain tumor." She said quietly, trying not to let Jerret's mom Lesley hear. Not wanting to upset her more.

"How long has he known he had a...brain tumor?"

"For about two weeks now, I'm surprised he didn't tell you."

   "Whats the damage?"

   "Huh?"

   "How bad is it?"

"Oh...well...its not looking good. Its a slow growing tummor but its been increasing in size since he was about three the doctors estimated. They also said they have never seen one this big before. The tummor is starting to calcify, so they must remove it before it hardens completly. Which in the end would cause more damage and would be nearly impossible to remove."

I thought back to all the sergury shows I watched on TV. Mystery Diagnosis, Untold Stories of Life in the ER, and Code Blue. I've watched heart transplants, broken bones repaired, bullets removed, many tummors removed and even a hand transplant. Okay think what happened to the people who had brain injuries or brain tumors...then it hit me...brain damage...

   "Mom...?"

   "Yes?"

"Where in his head is the tumor?"

   "The back."

   "Why do you ask?"

"Upper back of the head or lower?"

She looked at me strange then answered "Lower."

Then it could damage his cerebellum and occipital lobe, which would effect his balance, posture, movement, muscle coordination, vision, or reading ability! I look over at Lesley, her make-up is streaked down her face. Although she has stopped crying at the moment. She appeared to be deep in thought. Like mother like son i guess.

I looked around the waiting room several other people were seated. Some appeared to be people waiting to see a doctor. One lady to the left of us by the door, who was about 20 or so. Every 20 minutes she was clenching her stomach, and rocking back and forth. Its amazing what the doctors consider a minor problem. There was another person who looked about 40. His arm was sitting in his lap everything looked to be fine except for the fact that it was twisted at a weird angle!

An hour or so went by, I watched the lady rocking back and forth. Then suddenly her head fell back, her mouth dropped open and her hands fell into her lap. I stood up ignorring my moms questioning. I jogged over to her, her eyes rolled back into her head. I shook her to see if she may have fallen asleep but no such luck. She just lay there motionless. I grabbed her wrist and felt for a pulse, I felt a small pulse but it was fading fast. By now my mom was getting out of her chair and a couple other people came over to her too. I pushed past them and ran to the front desk.

"Mis, we need a doctor fast!!! A lady in the waiting room passed out and her pulse is fading!"

She didn't say a word. She grabbed the phone and paged for a doctor to come immediatly!
