Cheetahs

Cheetahs are carnivores, mammals, the fastest land animal, beautiful, deadly, and endangered.

The Cheetah is legally protected in most countries but they are still killed by farmers protecting their livestock. It has been proven that Cheetah’s do not kill livestock. They are also hunted for their spotted fur.

There are an estimated 5000-12000 Cheetahs remaining in Africa South of Sahara, and 200 in Iran and Afghanistan. They used to roam all over Africa and Asia.

A cheetah’s territory ranges from 40 sq km-800 sq km the females being bigger. Adult females are solitary unless they are mating or raising cubs. The gestation period lasts 90-95 days. Cubs are weaned in three months. They leave their mother after about one year. Sexual maturity is reached in 20-24 months.

The cheetahs preferred habitat is Savannah and arid open grasslands. Is uses bush land for stalking prey like the Thomson’s gazelle, hiding from predators like the Lion, and for shade in the hot afternoon.

The Cheetah’s body and tail measures 5.5 feet on AVG it weighs 100-145 lbs. It has tawny brown fur accented by black spots. A strip of black fur looking like tears on the face next to the muzzle is the thing that identifies the Cheetah to most people.

Cheetahs are wonderful, beautiful animals and being endangered with their habitat running out we need to help them or we’ll lose them.
