Aleera (Part 13)

With-in half an hour Aleera came back squeezing water out of her hair and the amulet on a piece of string around her neck. “Let me guess, you still haven’t found your flask.” she said as she walked towards Antonio and his many bags. “Um, well... no I haven’t.” he muttered as a reply, “I think I may have forgotten to bring it...” He continued, “Well we might be able to get one at the shop if we have any money left over.” murmured Aleera “Let’s get going.” she said.
Aleera picked up her single small leather bag while Antonio was busy trying to think how he could pick up 5 heavy bags the same way he did before. After quite some time they were finally ready to continue on their journey.
Aleera’s mind was still stuck on the fact that she was going to die, sometime soon and she did not know why. It was obvious that Antonio was thinking the same thing, but it was also very clear that he was trying not to show it, he still did not know that Aleera had over heard him and Taya speaking.
It was now about midday and the sun was bright. Antonio and Aleera had been walking beside the clear blue stream for about three hours in complete silence, they were both consumed deep in their thoughts.
“Is it just me or do you have the feeling that we are being watched?” Aleera asked quietly “No it is not just you, I have had that exact same feeling for a while now.” He replied with a cautious tone. “This just means that we cannot stop until we have bought our weapons” stated Antonio.
After this short conversation it went back to silence, there was no need to say anything else and they had to save their energy for their long journey ahead.
They continued to walk in silence, the road did not bend and so their walk did not take any eventful turns.
The day soon became night and the creatures of the road came out.
Antonio’s paces began to slow and they soon where at a complete stop. “As you said before Antonio we cannot stop until we have bought our weapons.” Aleera commented when she realized that he had halted. “I feel uneasy about this, I do not think we should continue or I think we will encounter some misfortune with one of these many creatures of the night.” He muttered.
After quite some discussion they decided to set up camp, though Aleera still did not agree with Antonio, she believed that stopping was one of the worst things they could do.
As they set up for the night Aleera noticed a creature in the bushes, thinking quickly she grabbed a strong but light branch and chucked it at the creature, hoping to ward it away.
The creature looked at Aleera for a couple of seconds then it ran away and disappeared into the darkness. This small encounter was the least of Aleera worries but she did not want to make her brother feel uncomfortable by making him continue their journey in the night.
As Aleera lay down on the hard ground she noticed that Antonio had set his bed beside her, she thought this was strange for him but just ignored her and tried to go to sleep.
During the night Aleera awoke startled by someone lightly shaking her and calling her name, it was Antonio. Aleera slowly opened her eyes and began to speak. “What do you want Antonio?” She asked quietly, it was now that she noticed Antonio was holding some ones wrist in his left hand.
She jumped up with a shock. “Err... Antonio, why are you holding that girls wrist?” questioned Aleera.
The girl looked about the same age as Aleera, roughly 15 or 16. She wore a dark cloak with a hood that covered most of her face but of what you could see of her skin was pale and she had deep blue eyes.
