I opened my eyes and felt his breath on my neck; he was snoring quietly. I slowly slid out from his arms and out of the bed; I pulled on my clothes and crept out of the room. I started to search for a phone, room by room; each with different types of furniture and each room serving a different purpose.
One door I opened and I couldn’t believe my eyes. A nursery? I guess I must have spoken it allowed because just then Ecifircas spoke up behind me.
“Yes miss, for the child. Well child to be that is; at least that is what the Master has said.”
“The child? What child?” I asked. I realized that I spoke rather confidently, as if I’d known him for ages.
“The Master’s heir, miss.” He spoke coolly and gracefully.
“Ah,” that’s all I could think of to say. I began to walk about the room, touching things briefly. I’d pick up a toy here or a book there. I looked back at Ecifircas, “Why am I here? Why me?” I asked.
He sighed, “Miss, it is a long story and you hear it every century or so. But it is my duty to tell you, seeing that the Master is too blinded by love to remember that you know nothing.
I looked at him dumbfounded and in, well, not exactly total disbelief but in shock. “What do you mean?” I managed to croak out.
He motioned for me to sit down; I grabbed a soft, stuffed animal on my way to the rocking chair by the window. The stuffed animal was a cute little cheetah with black, glassy eyes. He started telling me the story of how everything began; he had a soft, storytelling voice. It made me feel very relaxed and soon it was like I was remembering it all myself and not being told it by Ecifircas.
“To start with,” he began, “on your wedding night you were murdered.”
