Which Side Are You On *Part 29*
|
“You know, I rarely hear Ahx laugh or joke or anything. I mean he laughs a little sometimes when we’re talking, but he’s usually just so serious,” Sovira states, expecting an answer.
“Yeah, he only laughs a little now, but even so I think he’s just pretending. He wants us to think he’s okay now,” Sariin replies.
“Does it have to do with what happened to Romara?”
“Yes. It’s been quite a while since she was taken from him, but he dwells on the past so much. He doesn’t even try to forget.”
“He really loved her.” It was a statement, not a question.
“He wasn’t always this serious. He used to laugh all the time. He’d always make jokes and tease his brother and sister and me, and even Romara.” She smiled at her thoughts of the past. “But ever since Romara was taken away from him like that he hasn’t been the same. He’s always so serious now. I’m afraid that we’ll never get our Ahx back. He won’t forget her. He still misses her a whole lot and regrets not protecting her, not saving her. He thinks he should have seen it coming because of the fact that it was his very best brined that did it to her. But he really shouldn’t blame himself. There’s no way he could have seen what his friend was doing or planning on no matter how close they were,” Sariin babbles on.
“Apparently it wasn’t as close as he thought if Karamys betrayed him and killed his love,” Sovira states.
“Honestly, I don’t understand why Karamys did it in the first place. He used to be so different.”
“Did he love Romara too?”
“No, he wouldn’t have killed her or made her commit suicide then. Maybe he was jealous of their love. He’s never, not once in his life had a girlfriend, you know.”
“Well, no wonder if he’s always scaring them off.”
“Well, Ahx blames himself for what happened to Romara. Well, for letting it happen as he says.”
“He shouldn’t.”
“He does because he knows Karamys. He knows all too well about his little game.”
“What even started it in the first place?”
“I don’t know. You’d have to ask Ahx. He knows so much more about it than I do. He’s actually lived with that kind of stuff. I’ve only seen it happen.”
What could she mean that he’s lived with that kind of stuff? Has it happened to him? Was he a part of it? On second thought, maybe I don’t want to know, she thought to herself.
“So how did you meet Ahx and everyone? How long have you known them?” Sovira asks.
“I met them through Damien.”
“Damien!” Sovira yells frightened, bewildered, and surprised, and literally throws herself off of the bed away from Sariin. She stands up in front of Sariin, facing her, but careful not to get too close. She was standing beside the night table. “You were friends with him?!” I’m not so sure I can trust her now. She could be on Damien’s side. She’s probably wanting to kidnap me and take me to him. That’s why she’s here. I am not going back there! I won’t! How can Ahx trust her? “You won’t take me back to him! I will not be tortured! I won’t go back! You Can’t take me back!” Sovira starts yelling frantically.
She was terrified. She was having major hysterics. Damien frightened her more than anything ever could, more than anything could ever be possible of.
“No, no, Sovira,” Sariin says shaking her head. “I wouldn’t do that.”
“So he’s coming here then?! Or are you the one who is going to kill me?! Are you working for him or Karamys?! Tell me!” Sovira was becoming even more hysterical.
She reaches over to the night table, grabs her glass of water and smashes it against the table, breaking it into many pieces. She grabs one of the many shards of broken glass and points it toward Sariin. She gets in a stance like she’s ready to pounce on Sariin.
