Vampires Can't Fall In Love (12)

I shivered full of fear as he spoke. His voice was sending chills down my spine with each word. And the blood in my arm wasn’t circulating. It felt like it was going to fall off at any minute now.

“You were right, you know,” he said with an evil grin appearing on his face and slowly crawling up his cheeks. “You should have kept your thoughts shut off!”

“But I…How do you expect me to just not think?!” I yelled at him, trying hard to get the words out between my chattering teeth.

“It doesn’t matter much now. Actually not at all anymore. It’s much too late for that now, Nel. Much too late,” He said in a raised tone.

With only one of my arms in his grasp he lurched me to the stone wall of a building. I hit it hard, so hard I thought he might break my spine. I fell hard to the concrete sidewalk with a loud thud. I used my arms to lessen the power of the fall only to fall sideways onto my right because I didn’t have the strength in my right arm to hold myself up.

“You can make it on your own,” he said and then I heard a rush of whirling wind and then it was gone.

I looked up to see he wasn’t there. He had left me on the sidewalk alone. At least it wasn’t dark. I could see where I was going. But the problem was I didn’t know where to go. I didn’t even know where I was. Well, either way I had to go somewhere so I got back up on my feet.

Ow! I was so sore. My back hurt so bad. Damn, he throws hard. I glanced around to decide the best direction to go. Maybe I should sleep in a hotel for a day. I am getting tired. I thought to myself as my stomach started growling. Maybe I should get something to eat first.

I started walking farther down the sidewalk where we were going before my idiotic brain ruined those plans. I walked about ten minutes then finally a grocery store was in sight. I went in and got a big bag of potato chips and a Dr. Pepper. Then, I walked back out and sat down on a bench right outside the store while opening my bag and chomping down.

I looked at all of my surroundings while munching away at my chips. I’m a very observant person so I have to know what’s around me or I just don’t feel right. There were a couple more stores in front of me and a gas station a few buildings down from the store I was at. Other than that the place looked pretty empty. Every other building looked abandoned. There weren’t too many people walking by either. Maybe a couple here and there like every five minutes or so. It was so quiet. Too quiet. The solitude began to creep me out. There was also an alley beside the grocery store; pretty close to the bench I was sitting on.

I couldn’t believe I was already done with my bag of chips. I finally opened my Dr. Pepper and took a couple sips while taking in the air. The silence was driving me so crazy to the point I was finding it hard to breathe. I don’t the silence; don’t really trust it. I got up and threw the bag into the trash then took a big gulp of my drink and threw that away too. I started walking the direction I came , but when I turned and started to walk I bumped into a guy.

He was shaggy looking. He wore tattered clothes; faded green shirt and jeans with huge holes all over. His pupils looked dilated and he stunk of alcohol. He carried a glass bottle in his left hand and a cigarette in the other. It was just him and no one else so if he tried anything maybe I could get away. I was too close for comfort though.
