"Are you hungry?" he asked.

Good. A change of subject. He can’t possibly find anything funny in my thoughts of food.

"Actually, yes I am. I’m starving," I replied, rubbing my stomach.

"Well, I don’t have anything here you could eat, but there is a store just down the road. I could pick something up there."

"Kay."

Figures he doesn’t have anything to eat here. At least not human food. I mean how often is it that he has a human over for company? More like, how often does he kidnap a human, not for their blood, and keeps them alive?

He led the way out and I noticed there wasn’t one car where he lived. Not a single vehicle was parked at his house.

He chuckled. "Vampires don’t necessarily need to have some type of vehicle. Some do though. Some just for the looks, and some actually drive them. It’s just to disguise us. It makes us seem more human. Makes us fit in a little better," he stated.

"Then why don’t you have a car?" I asked curiously.

"I’ve never really liked cars. They make me feel slow and constricted."

"But it would help hide who you really are."

"No. People, well most, take one look at me and automatically know who I am."

"Why? Are you famous?"

He found what I said amusing apparently since he was laughing ferociously once again.

"I guess you could say that," he said, still half-way chuckling.

"So you are? Amongst vampires, demons, or humans?" I asked, intrigued.

If he really is famous, why didn’t I know him? Why didn’t he look familiar to me? Maybe he isn’t famous around humans then. Maybe that was all it was.

"No. I’m pretty famous around all three species," he replied, answering both my question and my thoughts.

"Oh…," I trailed off into thought.

I was wondering how he was famous. What could he have done to make himself famous amongst three totally different species? Hmm…

He’s probably famous with the humans because he is a vampire, our enemy. He survives off of us humans by drinking our blood and killing us. How could he not be famous amongst us. He was probably a wanted murder, recognized by vampire hunters. They were looking for him and wanted him dead. That is pretty famous.

But vampires…Maybe he’s like a god to the vampires. Like some kind of legend. Kind of like Luther. Yeah, that’s probably what it is. All of his kind must look up to him. Wouldn’t you have to be like an old vampire to be looked up to though? He did say he was old…

And demons…How is he famous with the demons? That I’m not so sure about…Let’s see, it could be a) he’s worked with them before and now they’ve seen how strong he is and they admire his strength, b) he’s killed an important demon or many demons and now he is a wanted murderer amongst them as well as the humans, or c) he’s part demon himself, a very famous half-demon, half-vampire-Luka.

I almost gasped, but caught it in my throat before it reached my mouth and swallowed it.

Bingo! It has to be. He kidnaps me to question me about Luther who he seems totally obsessed with. He’s doing everything he can to find him. He’s keeping me here to lead Luther here. Their features are very much alike. His eyes, his hair, the resemblance is very similar.

This time the gasp escaped me. I was being kidnapped by a very deadly vampire. And a very deadly demon. I’m being kidnapped by Luka!

I heard a growling sound beside me as we were walking down the sidewalk. I looked at the expression on the vampire’s face; he wasn’t too pleased. Of course he had heard my thoughts. So he knows I have just figured out a secret that he was keeping from me. Maybe it was better to shut down my thoughts. I really should have.

I stopped walking when he grabbed my right arm tightly. He was clenching it so hard I could already feel my whole arm going numb.

"Maybe you’re a little too smart for your kind, Nel. It would be wiser not knowing what you do now," he said in a monstrous tone.
