"I don’t know who killed her. There was a big war going on and so much happened all so fast. I’m betting Luther knows."

"But I thought-"

Vamp interrupts me, already knowing what I was going to say, "Yes. No one has seen him for two hundred years, but he knows a lot of what he has nothing to do with. He hears stories, or reads minds. And he is a much better mind reader than I."

"So can all vampires read minds?" I asked, curiously.

"Eventually."

"As they get older?"

"Yes."

Then it is just as I had suspected. The older they become, the more their powers grow.

"You are a very bright girl, Nel."

He said my name!

"Thanks." I smile, broadly.

And he sounded so captivating when he said it too!

He sighed. "Nel, Nel, Nel," he said, shaking his head from side to side. "What will I do with you? No matter how many times I so hardly indicate that I have absolutely no interest in you, you still have those most disturbing thoughts of me. Why is that so?"

"Well, if you weren’t barging into my brain all the time, my thoughts couldn’t disturb you."

He just smirked as if something I said was funny. Clearly, I was not being funny.

"Oh, I find you quite hysterical," he said in his charming voice and laughed.

Honestly, I don’t find anything funny. Maybe I just need to get used to his weird sense of humor, or him reading my mind. It’s become obvious he’ll never stop.

"That you do."

"Would you stop that?"

He started laughing again.

"I don’t find anything funny! Now stop reading my mind! Stop!"

"Give me a good enough reason to," he said, smirking.

"It’s my privacy! How would you like it if I read your mind?"

"Ah, but you see, you can’t." His smirk grew wider.

"Ugh!" I groaned, aggravated. "If I wanted you to read my mind all the time I would rip my brain out and serve it on a platter for you so you can have your good old time and do whatever you want with my thoughts!"

Again he laughed. "You are such a very hilarious human. You know that? After this is all over I might just have to keep you around. You make my dreadful, treacherous days seem bearable. You add such humor to them," he said as he began to laugh again.

I just glared at him. I wasn’t going to say anything else that might somehow miraculously seem funny to him. I decided to just keep my mouth shut. Better yet, why not shut my thoughts up too. I’ll just turn myself into a lifeless robot so he has nothing to laugh at.

Maybe I’m wrong…

He was laughing again. At my thoughts of course.

"You are too hilarious for your kind, Nel. And so much more interesting." He paused to laugh again until he could finally confine his laughter.

Well, at least he’s in a better mood. Or seems to be at least.
