Which Side Are You On? *Part 14*

"Sovira, the tornadoes blew a car into your parents car and well.."

"They're dead," Sovira finishes, letting a single tear fall from her cheek. She tries to be strong and hold her tears in.

"I'm sorry, Sovira."

"That's what the note meant. I could've stopped it but instead I was fighting with you. It's all my fault! I could've stopped it from happening."

"What are you talking about?"

"I had a dream of my parents in a crash, and then I woke up and found a note. The one that I threw at you. At first I didn't know what it meant, but now I realize and I can't do a thing because it's too late." Another tear falls down her cheek. "Why am I so slow and stupid? I won't save anyone like this. I'm not good enough." She starts bawling on the phone now.

"Sovira? Are you alright? What are you talking about? Life and death is a cycle. Something we have no control over. We can't change it."

"But I dreamed it before it ever happened. I could have changed it, but I did nothing."

"Just wait there, okay? I'll be over in a minute."

"Be careful, Markus. I love you."

"I love you too." They hang up.

Just as she hangs the phone up she sees another note lying on the floor. She picks it up and opens it.

-Someone's late. Wonder what could've happened-

What? What could it mean? Sovira asks herself as her heart races. I've got to figure it out. Who's late? I can't do this. She starts crying again.

*Ding...Ding*

The doorbell rings. Markus? Already? She crumples up the note and throws it in the trash, and runs for the door. She's about ten feet away from the front door when she stops in her tracks. She turns her head towards the window on her right and a tear falls down her cheek. There were red and blue lights flashing through the window. She starts walking slowly towards the door.

*Ding....Ding*

She reaches the door, but only stares at it for a few seconds. Then she takes a deep breath and reaches for the door handle and slowly turns it and opens the door. Tears start falling down her cheeks when she sees the cops standing outside.

"Hello mam. You're Sovira Kaylock, correct?" Asks the cop standing in front of the door.

"Yes, I..I am." She says, having to force the words out.

"I'm terribly sorry. You look so young. Well-"

"I know..." Sovira takes a deep breath, "I know what happened." She covers her face with her hands and starts crying again. "My parents are dead. I know that. I know!" She says shaking her head while still covering her face with her hands.

"I'm sorry mam. I know it's hard, but-"

"Please, just leave me alone."

"Ms. Kaylock, you can't stay here alone. I know it's hard for you, but-"

Removing her hands from her face she yells, "You don't know! You don't know what it's like having everyone you care about die around you! You-"

"Ms. Kaylock. Do you have any family here?" He asks interupting her. "Someone that could take care of you? Anyone close?"

"You don't understand!" She was still going at it, completely ignoring the officer.

"I'm gonna have to ask you to come with us. Pack a few things and we'll figure it out along the way."

"But I-"

"It'll be okay. I promise."

"How can you-" She stops herself from finishing the sentence. "I'll get my things. Just wait here. I'll only be a second," she says and smiles at him.

"Alright. I'll wait for you here."

She walks into her house and down the hallway leading to her room. How can he say it'll be okay? My parents have died. I'm alone. And he thinks it'll be okay. I won't be satisfied until the one responsible for all these deaths is dead themself. And I want to be the one to kill him. I want him dead. But I don't know who it is. I need to speak with Ahx. I'm not going with those sorry, pathetic, fat excuses for cops. She thinks to herself while entering her room and packing her stuff. She grabs her clothes, toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, and anything remotely important and packs it in her bag. This may not be the best choice, but there really isn't much else to do. I just can't lose anybody else. All I have left is Markus. I can't lose him too. I won't. If I'm going to do something I'm gonna need all the help I can get. But I can't bring humans into this. I need...She halts her thoughts to footsteps coming towards her room. Shit! Hurry!

"Ms. Kaylock, are you done in there? What's taking so long?" The officer says and opens her bedroom door. "Sovira Kaylock?" He looks around her room. "Ms. Kaylock? Are you in here?" Maybe another room, but I've already looked in almost every other room. He thinks to himself while leaving her bedroom.

(huff, huff, huff) "That was too close." Sovira says sitting on the guest bed in Ahx's house holding the necklace he gave her.
