“Well this was one hell of a night.” Ryan said as he turned the engine on. “It sure was.” Rodger said looking out the window at the stars. Ryan noticed that Rodger was acting differently from his normal self and it could only mean two things: a girl or he smelt food. Ryan couldn’t smell any food himself so he knew it had to be a girl. “So what’s her name?” he asked. “Who’s name?” “The girl you met tonight.” “Oh how’d you know?” “Because mom said I always had that same look when I first started dating Alexis.” “Oh well actually she goes to school with me and I knew who she was. We just never talked before.” “Oh nice.” “So we ended up dancing together because there weren’t many people our age.” “Did you get her number?”
“I got more than that I have plans on Friday night.” “That’s awesome man you needed to find a new girl after that one chick.” “You mean Brittney?”
“Yeah her.” “We never went out there were just rumors because she needed status I guess.” “She needed status from you? Man you’re just like me when I was in high school.” “That’s because they all know who you are and so I automatically have your social status.”
“Nice.” “Yep.” “I can’t believe you’re all grown up.” “That’s what happens when you’re never around.” “What do you mean never around I’m always around?”
“You only come for birthdays and holidays.” “Considering how many of those there are that's a few times a month.” “Yeah but did you know that the only birthday you didn’t come to this year was mine?” “Oh man I’m sorry. You know things have been busy lately.” “Yeah but ever since you got married things have always been busy. If it wasn’t a baby, it was school or work.” “Well Rodger that’s what happens when you get married.” “It’s not just that it seems like everyone is too busy for me.” “How do you mean?” “Mom and dad are so excited for the new baby and that you’re so successful and have a family. They like that Beau isn’t married and that Aurora is gone. Hailey is the only girl so she has priority in the family. Bryan found a good girl. And me I’m just in high school. I’m at the age that mom and dad don’t want to deal with me. Everyone else has their own lives and I feel like I’m a part of this family that doesn’t need to be here.” “Rod of course you need to be here. We all need you. It’s still nice to have a sibling at your age because it’s nice to be with someone whose life isn’t so complicated. I love coming home to see you and to hear about high school. I’m sorry I don’t come over as much as you want me to. I’ll try to see you more often.” “You can say it but it won’t happen.” “Don’t doubt it. We should just do something with the boys. No girls. Or we could go dinner with this new girl you met.” “I’d like that.” “Then we’ll do it but now we need to sleep.” “Okay.” Rodger said laughing as he got Brooke out of the car. He planned on sleeping at Ryan’s house just because it was easier than driving to his house.
