The teacher in her second hour class only took ten minutes to give her speech about what would be going on in the year and she said that the rest of class time they could just talk. Jake took this opportunity to get to know Olivia. “So Olivia what’s your story?” Jake asked. “What story?” Olivia said. “Well everyone has a story.” Jake said. “Really?” “Yep.” “Okay I’ll tell you mine. But it will take forever.” “Well I’ve got all day.” “Well you know Justin.” “You brother.” “Well he’s one of many.” “I know what you mean.” “Your four sisters are nothing compared to my brothers.” “Really? How many do you have?” “Fourteen.” “What? Did you say fourteen?” Jake said nearly falling out of his chair. His expression was exactly like everyone else’s when they would hear how many there were. “Yes I did.” “Wow” “Four of them go here.” “Really?” “How about I just start from top and tell you all about my brothers.” “Like I said I have a lot of time.” “Okay well first there’s Michael. He’s twenty. Right now he’s in college about an hour away. He’s going to be a doctor. Then there’s Ethan he’s eighteen and living with his pregnant girlfriend at a different college about two hours away. They are both my step brothers. Then there’s Justin. We’re twins. And then there’s Evan. He’s sixteen too. He’s only a week younger than me. He’s in this class with us. He’s my step brother too. Aiden and Daniel are both fourteen. Daniel’s my step-brother and Aiden’s my brother. Then the rest are half brothers. You ready?” “Yeah.” “Okay Ryan’s 12, David and Isaac are twins and they are 10. Seth’s 8, Austin ’s 6, Dylan’s 5, Kyle’s 4, and Cameron’s 2. And to top it all off my mom is pregnant again.” “Wow you have a big family.” “I know.” “So how does it work you have step-brothers, full brothers and half-brothers. And your mom is pregnant again.” “Well my mom isn’t really my mom. She’s my step mom. She and my dad married about twelve years ago. I call her my mom because she’s the only mom I’ve ever known. My real mom died just after she gave birth to Aiden when I was two. Michael was my step-mom’s first son. She doesn’t really know who the father is. She had him when she was sixteen. Then she found this guy when she was eighteen and had Ethan, Evan and Daniel. Then she and my dad met when they were both in Florida . After that the babies just started coming. Some people say that they should stop because they are too old. But really my dad’s thirty-eight and my mom’s thirty-six. I just hope that this new one is a girl. They even decided not to find out what it is so they don’t jinx it. Every other pregnancy they’ve looked to see if it was a boy or a girl. I swear that if this baby is boy I will scream and run away.” “I guess I sort of know how you feel I want to spend at least one day having brothers.” “Do you want to?” “Yes.” “Okay come to my house this weekend Michael and Ethan are coming home. And when all my brothers are together they always play touch football. And since the three youngest can’t play. That makes it uneven so you could be that last player they need. They always ask me but just because they say touch football doesn’t mean it stays that way.” “I couldn’t do that.” “No I insist it the least I could do for saving me this morning.” “Are you sure?”
