The first part of chapter one

Two words circulated briefly round my head, piercing my distracted thoughts, ‘cold’ and ‘red’. Cold pursued my thoughts a while longer until red engulfed it in a dazed confusion. Red wandered through my mind a moment more, searching for something to associate with. With a shake of my head, red was lost in the bubbling torrent of thoughts jostling for my attention. Another shake and my current line of thought was lost forever, falling over the crumbling edge of my mind, tumbling into the deep, dark abyss that lay beyond.

I shivered, rolled over and gazed blankly upwards, welcoming the caress of the last few tendrils of autumn sunlight penetrating the golden canopy above. The soft light illuminated the wrinkles and creases that had appeared so suddenly, gathering at the corners of my eyes and running across my pale forehead in deep worry lines.  My eyes traced a lone cloud’s path across the sky, lifeless, dull, grey eyes, no colour, sparkle or life.

I sat up, my arms hung loosely at my sides, I slowly shook my head. My fringe fell into place like a long dark curtain obscuring my vision to the left; I turned slowly in a circle. The shadows were slowly eating away at my surroundings; by the last fragments of light sifting through the canopy above, I was in a small clearing, surrounded by large oak trees. I took two small shuffling steps forwards, the sound of snapping twigs and the crunch of fallen leaves sounding, in the silence, like a gun shot. A familiar rusty blade stabbed at my heart, fear, a cruel laughter rang in my ears. A cold, raspy voice I knew all too well whispered in my ear.

“Just you and me Lily.”

Despair overwhelmed me, I slumped to the ground, years of leafy debris had piled up untouched and undisturbed, unlooked upon perhaps except for the woodland animals that lived here. There was no escape from the voice, the voice that lived in my head. I hit the ground with a soft, muffled ‘thwumph’, the shock of the fall and abrupt stop absorbed by the spongy layers. My mind registered the slow falling leaves, resettling after being pushed aside by the onrushing misplaced air. I watched a misplaced woodlouse crawl across my hand and studied a misplaced centipede as it wound its way over a misplaced red leaf and out of sight. Everything seems to be misplaced in this God forsaken world.

“They are coming…”

teeniegirl015 This is a little scary, but it's really interesting too. Not a lot of people write like this. You write with substance and reality. Not the bullshit that most people write about (including myself). Not many are capable of writing like this (including myself). Keep living, keep writing, and keep real.

Stay fly.--Valerie.
