Someone help me.

If someone is on dialysis because their kidneys have shut down, are they most likely going to die????

I'm going to go do some research on it. I'll check back later to hear your thoughts. Thanks so much.

they'll need a kidney replacement... A person can live on dialysis for a while, just not very comfortably... They need a kidney transplant... A body can't live forever on dialysis...

My Uncle's kidney shut down but he survived even though everyone said he couldn't. :)

Everytime they fixed something he got another tumor, but somehow he pulled through. ^^

He was realesed from the hospital like 2 months ago. ^^

You can survive with one kidney.
That's how people can give someone else a kidney.

You can't survive with no kidneys though.
Not without dialysis anyway.

Just keep on telling him how good life is and make sure even through his treatments he has something as a reminder there is a friend like you that would give anything to keep him alive and hopefully he will like its his only one. There should be more people like you on this Earth, your pure-hearted and thats amazing to me. Just keep your head up and your hopes alive and everything will be alright. :)

Like everyone here has said, there is a chance that it'll go both ways.

Three years ago I had an uncle who went on dialysis because his kidneys shut down. They diagnosed him in October or November, but then he ended up dieing on Christmas Eve...

so I believe that if they catch it in time, there is a good chance that the person will make it

This is good advice. I, too, have known people on dialysis. It is a hard row to hoe, but there is always hope. Do not give up hope.

Changeing ones diet is another way of prolonging dialysis treatments and taxing the kidneys less. Prolonging life.

It depends on how often they need dialysis and where they are doing it. I have two friends with poly cystic kidney disease and one went in every other week for three hours for a few years and actually the kidney got better. I also know someone that needs 3 hours a day and does it at home...she has been doing it for two years now. With a transplant Dialysis may still need to happen every once in a while and they would need to take imunno supresants the rest of their life...but Dialysis saves lives...Be hopeful and spread the hope but prepare for the worst case scenario...

he probably won't die. they'd probably be able to find a kidney in time, as you don't need a cadaver. people can survive quite well with one kidney, as they can with one lung. so chances are he'll most likely be okay, as long as a transplant is found and it doesn't reject.
