Ok, let's all settle this. Twilight sucks, and you know it. Stephen King was right, when talking about J.K. Rowling and Stephanie Meyer, he said, "Both Rowling and Meyer, they're speaking directly to young people...the real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephanie Meyer can't write worth a darn...she's not very good." there it is, summed up. It's just an outpouring of teenage angst , clumbsily channelled onto paper. This series, like Mr. King said, was meant for girls. Teenage girls. Both he and I understand the pitch and target of the books, but it's a hopelessly terrible piece of literature, all around. The only reason Meyer is successful is because young people (me being one of them, but trying to avoid the following) are too obsessed with "emo" that they aren't paying attention to the writing at all. It's just another parasite contributing to the desease that is emo. People want to be seperated from the mainstream, but they want to be part of a group, so they join the emo crowd. They want to be dark and misunderstood, or whatever crap they're aiming for, and twilight satisfies their fancy. Not to mention the level of sensuality that is in the book, that no doubt the poisoned youth are loving. Stephanie Meyer is probably laughing all the way to the bank, probably, scratch that, HOPEFULLY knowing that this excuse for an attempt of an emo teen's 8th grade Enlgish class short story, was only a success because of this stupid fad. But, something about that, South Park was right in distinguishing Goths from Vampires (or Emo's or whatever you want to classify them as) because Goths were around before all this crap started. Much like Emo stole its styles from Goth, Punk, Skater, and others, Meyer stole her idea from people like Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and Joel Schumacher. The premise of the twilight series is stupid, and stolen. Vampires glitter? They freaking glitter! Come on!

The point is to satisfy the young teenager (most girls, but sometimes guys too) delight in being an alternative to mainstream society, but also belonging to a group. It's all a fad, like Back to the Future was, but instead Twilight is ruining society. People think they have a morbid draw to darkness and a more radical and sensual side to regular lifestyle, and they find that in the reading. Like King said, the younger teenage girls find it interesting in the books to find all these new and excited feelings they haven't fully come to terms with yet, and read about them. It's like a younger kid's version of a romance novel, with some of that twisted darkness thrown in. But really, all these 'vampire kids' (which was a style that started WAY before Meyer thought of the books or Emo was invented) and their little glitter and obsession with the characters and all that, is just what its meant to be, a fad.

I agree, i used to like the books i admit, but the more i started reading them for reading i began to see how STUPID they were written, she is an AWFUL writer. :( just the plot had me hooked because I was a goth and read it when it first came out, and as it became more popular girls started to do stupid things to themselves. Stephanie meyer is just on wanna be writer who just knows what will start a new fad... Now more people look like me and act like me when they CANT BE A GOTH!!!!! they act all emo like no one understands and read the books over and over, i mean come on, some people were like that FOR REAL before the stupid books came out, and really, its just about a vampire, who glitters, like i said, when i read the books i had high hopes he would suck humans blood and couldn't come out during the day because of the sun, but NOOOO THEY GLITTER, thats just bull shit... it really is...
