A World Without Religion

A world without religion? I was thinking about it and thought, you know, i think it would be better. Here are my reasons. The biggest change in the world would be less wars. Think about it. Most wars are start because of religion. One of the reasons people came to America back in the 1700s was because they wanted freedom of whatever religion they wanted. Another great thing that would come about it would be that laws would be made on what is actually bad. For example, the most well known mostly religious law is the banning of gay marriage. I don't know if they would accept it or not, but the descions would be for science and what could hurt people. Another would be no one would discrimanate about religions and whats better. It would be just one less thing people could hurt others feelings about. There are more, but i want to save it to keep the topic going. Remember i'm not saying that religion in bad, i am just saying i think the world would be better. Please don't say stuff like," Well people would kill each other because the bible tells them now they can't." We all know, or most of us, that people can still follow basic human rules such as killing people. Just think if people would wake up and forget about religion.

There were many valid points made by you guys here...I read them all.^_^...But I would like to say that if there were no religion...that itself would BE a religion. It's an oxy-moron topic..I believe it may be called "Anarchy" or something similar to that effect..because if everyone chose to believe in no religion.."No religion" would become the religion agreed upon by everyone. And as for the people that said without religions there will be many more killings--you have to veiw the otherside of the thought..if it is okay to kill others..it doesn't mean it would happen more often..think about it..if you killed someone..you would always have to fear that the person you killed may mean your death as well..you kill someone , and their family may come after you.Though there wouldn't be any law..that would still maintain a balance..killing wouldn't be "wrong"..but many would still fear to kill another person from that aspect. And without the influence of such religous beleifs as no sex before marriage..the world may very well be way more over populated than it is now..because there isn't a reason to even have marriage in the first place. This could cause famine...and many people in the world such as that would most likely become thieves in order to survive. If you lack religon..it would just cause another form of social class to arise. The government would most likely be different--if there even would be a government. There may not be any free will either , because if everyone were unified under the belief of nothing , then they would most likely think similarly and the progression of evolution and the ages of technology would be stunted for years and years...because it would hinder abstract thought as well.Anyone agree with me?

no offense, but all basic human rules came from religion. And im not kidding think about it. Where did all these basic rules start? Man didnt just one day decide that it was wrong to kill, NO, Man was told that it was wrong to kill so then it was passed down from generation to generation. But who told man? Hmmm...Well i personally believe it was God. And what? Is it so wrong for the pilgrims back in the 1700's to want to be able to choose in what they believe in, to have an opinion of thier own, instead of doing or thinking what the king told them.

I think it'd be much better. And as for what Krye said. It's all fine and well that you don't oppress others religions. But the majority of people do. As soon as someone finds out I'm atheist they usually almost without fail either A) call me retarded or B) try to convert me. Then there are those who are religious fanatics (not just Christians mind you) who think that those who aren't the same religion deserve death.

Believing in something [ faith ] is extremely important to so many people. However, SO many people have died in the name of religion. The Crusades, The Holy Wars, Native Americans during the beginning of our country, 9/11. Religion has prompted so much prosecution and still does today. It is almost like the original religion had become perverted with so many double meanings. People say "You're going to hell for not going to church". Yet at the same time it says somewhere in the bible that you are not supposed to pressure other people into a religion. If the great religious prophets could see what has become of their religious teachings, would they be satified or would they be like wtf? Many people hide behind religion instead of addressing importantrs issues. I don't know, just my thoughts. I know people need something to believe and religion is one of the only main factors that hs remained throughout the ages but still...

If their weren't so many different religions, maybe we would all get along just fine. For personally if their were only one religion,we wouldn't have as many deaths.I agree with you :)

I'm not a religious person, I do think religion does cause alot of problems but alot of good people take comfort from their religions, I think a world without religion would still have it's problems, after all religion isn't an entirely bad thing just a few (vocal) religious people ruin it for everyone. Also I thought I'd mention Buddhism isn't exactally a religion, it's closer to a way of life, depending on what form of buddhism you follow.

This world would be amazing if religion did not exist. From religions we have developed such things as cults and other means that have killed people or burtaly brain washed them. It is a wonderful thought, however people need that feeling to conform with others so I don't believe it could ever happen. Tragic.

No. I think the world is better WITH religion. I'm quite religious myself - and i accept other people's belief. I don't go around saying, "all who don't believe in my religion could stand away from me and die in a hole!". No... that is definitely not me. I accept and respect people who believes or don't believe in a religion. ------- Ok... yea... the whole reason wars start is because of religion. But look... look at America right now. It's a massive continent. If it weren't for those who seeked for "religious freedom" back then... no one would move away and set up a religious free state. The Puritans that went to live in Boston, Mass. didn't allow other religions except their own. This caused people to disperse and find "new land". -------------- I believe in a God. Yes. I am a Christian. I believe that he created this world and that Jesus came to die for us. I'm not saying that you have to agree or believe what i say... but that is just what I believe. not you. ----------- I don't know. What would anyone look to after death then? If there isn't a religion... then you couldn't have possibly believe that you could be A) reincarnated to live another life (buddhism) B)Go to Heaven or suffer in hell (christianity) c)other religions. --------- so yea. i don't think i'm too clear on what i'm trying to say, but whatever.

you make some good points but i think people need something to believe in. if they didn't have something to hold them at bay they would all think that they were the highest power out there and kill people anyway

You actually raise a valid point....if you really look back at our history, religion is the basis for the majority of death, disease, and destruction. Scary thought....however the fear of God is also keeping some crazy ass people at bay...

If people dont have a chance to stand up and prove something and "fight" (doesnt have to be voilence) for something....what would we do??
