artwork?!?!

i've noticed that there are some pretty good pictures in there. but when i try drawing, i end up with a rather crappie version of what i organaly planed. and while i'm not that bad at drawing, i was wondering, how do you get better at it? do you use other pics or do just keep drawing and you'll improve over time?!? i would apprietiate any help. also, i have a major problem drawing hair. it ends up bad and ruins the whole picture.
