How do you read others work?

Do you read with an instant critical eye? Or read through feeling the words? Do you ever feel like you have to lower your intellect to get to someone else's point? Or have to strain to get to a higher level on another's work~

I don't mind reading love or death poems if they seem true. Like if I wrote a love poem... that would be some funny stuff.

I'll be honest, most of the poems I post (on my other page) are love poems...and the reason for that is: I'm a LOVING person. Love is what I feel almost 24 hours a day...there are a few others up that are extremely weird, I would name them but that would give away my identity, and I'm not ready for that just yet.

I agree. Those with an intense eye~ that goes further than the average write, are the ones that keep me lingering.

Always a critical eye first and then the feeling comes second. If you dont interest me then I wont even finish reading the poem. A poem is meant to be beautiful, the writer should be grasping for truth or painting a picture, most of what I have read is sappy love, loss or cutting poems. There are times where I have been blown away and struggling for understanding. 500nets is awesome, jake, jac and a little known guy whose name I cant remember are some of those writers.

I think I'll give this discussion a bump since I find it a REAL discussion.

Then there are those who don't get much notice~ and really write to write. I admire that alot.

Some are hard to critique~ there are alot of great writers on this site. Then there are some who just improve with time. I just give props to those still trying and sharing.

bad grammar is a problem, but I usually try to read past it, as difficult as it is sometimes

I will not read a poem if it is written in textspeak, I try to feel what the writer is feeling in their words, though it is difficult sometimes. Sometimes slang can be used to enhance a poem, but it is possible to overdo it. I try to be honest in my reviews
