Mental Disorders?

What's your take on Anorexia, Borderline, Bi-Polar, Deppression?? Borderline? Is labeling someone with a disorder, making it all more apparent?

I have quite a few friends with mental disorders. My one friend has around twenty. He some times runs out of his meds, and it truely scares me, for I am afraid he will kill him self, or shoot some one. He has the habit of memorizing floor plans (like the one to my house), and some times he kind of staulks people. I am not afraid of him, he would never hurt me intenionaly. I am afraid for him though. When off his meds he haulusinates, and can't figure out what is realy happening. It sounds crazy to say so, but I am kind of in love with him.

You know, like a few decades back, people didn't have all these 'disorders' and fair enough, some of them do cause alot of trouble and damage a person. But some things are better left un-labeled. Like dyslexia. My sister did a special test for it and they said her results proved she was dyslexic. And all of a sudden, she cant read anything. I think when you label people as depressed, or dyslexic or anything like that. They automatically pick up on it, and try make everyone else feel sorry for them, and they use their label as an excause to get out of things like work. Some people say they are un-fit to work because they are depressed. For gods sake, thats not a good excause! I think that someone should only be labelled as depressed of anything like that if they really do need the help, not if they cut themself, because thats not depression.

everybody (i guess) has this slight S/S of having a disorder..but the name disorder is the only one that makes it sound bad...when we had our topic in my class about personality disorders everybody just kept on saying hey that's me or i experience that...my guy is claiming to be a slight OC...but in my case it's really different and it is really hard to explain especially when people kept on reacting like "really? i didn't notice that.." and i think Multiple Personality Disorder is scary...

Mental disorder is an interesting subject. By what standard do we measure "normal" brain function. Is anyone truly normal or regular in their mental capacities? To some degree don't we all suffer from some sort of disorder?

i think i have BPD..but my parents and my bf won't agree..i want to seek for medical advice but whenever i feel normal i also feel like i don't need it..arrgh! it is so hard to explain..but i guess it's just the "personality disorder" label which had made it an issue or not..idk..i'm confuse..

yeah... giving him something to blame it on. i've done it before. i have a.d.d. & if someone says "are you paying attention" i'll say no... then blame it on the a.d.d. haha

I get it. :) Still I was aiming in a different direction. Like perhaps someone goes in to hear he has avoidant personality disorder. Do you think that would only make him more avoidant, just by learning he has such a disorder?

i know... but if you are diagnosing a patient, what would they rather have said to them. they are something or they have something. im just saying. i felt like it was a relative statement.
