Airplane Tickets Too High? Blame Your Local Fatass!

Plane tickets are rising. Why? Because they have to use more fuel to get the planes in the air. Why? Because people are getting fatter. Yes, because more and more people are horribly obese, we all have to pay more to fly. And I'm not talking about someone who is slightly overweight. No, these are people who are just a few pounds shy of a heart attack. People who grow red in the face, breathing hard and sweating from walking (waddling) a few steps. Is this fair? Why should everyone have to pay because some people can't control themselves? Would it be better to have just the fat people pay extra for their tickets?

I work in a deli, and we sometimes serve deep fried foods. I think that the obscenely obese share a collective mind and are able to tell one another about this. They come in droves, always ordering a ton of this. We also serve a dip for this fried food, which is mainly comprised of mayo. The mayo dip is extremely popular...and disgusting.

I think the diet soda is a necessity, regular soda might put them in a diabetic coma. It's always a large diet soda as well.
I used to work in a movie theater, people would order a large popcorn, request it be swimming in butter then order a diet soda as if they think they're tricking anyone into thinking they're on a diet.

I dislike the ones that stand in line at the fast-food place, order what appears to be enough food to feed a small country, then order a 'diet' soda to compensate for their gorging.

How much did the ticket cost increase when the airlines where required to increase security? Or when the cost of fuel increased So dramatically? I guess this would have been in early 01. I don't fly so I have no idea. I'm just curious how much the ticket cost changed during this time frame

I've seen people that could fill window, middle and aisle with a little bit pouring over.

I dislike moderate obesity. Obesity doesn't just sneak up on ya. It takes lots of time for someone to become that large. I hate listening to people bitch about how they've been dieting but aren't losing weight or how its so hard for them to lose weight. If you want to lose weight, finish your meal prior to being full. If your gut feels like its gonna rupture you've eaten too much. Also an awkward hobble around the block would help trim the fat off of their bulbous torso's.

And I'm being totally serious about some requiring, even asking for two seats.

I think they charge double for seats...as some require two seats.

i understand that it takes more fuel to haul more weight around but considering that the jet planes themselves weight a few tons, more of the fuel costs go into getting the plane in the air and keeping it there, not into all the passengers. besides, i thought they charged fat people double the cost of a plane ticket already.

And I'll be honest, I dislike the morbidly obese. I hate how they expect the rest of the world to cater to their obesity. The McDonald's lawsuit? Prime example of this. I don't care if they want to be fat, but I'll be damned if their choice of eating to an early grave should negatively impact me.

This is hilarious, I would have to believe the tickets were going up due to the cost of fuel.. Not the local fatass.

NPR was talking about it as well...to be honest, while I usually take everything I hear with a grain of salt, this is something that makes sense. There has been a rise in obesity. There has also been a rise in the amount of jet fuel used to take off, and the amount of gasoline used per mile in cars. Because fuel costs money, tickets have to rise to compensate...there is a connection.

there's a difference between being obese and morbidly obese. what you're reading is a bunch of statistics summed up into an article from a politically biased news source. i think the significant health problems occur in morbidly obese people and it's likely they got that way through stress, hormonal imbalance, genetics, and lifestyle choices.
