WRONG MOTIVES Have you ever?...

I just busted myself on something and I was wondering if any of you have ever felt this way? When I first got here there was someone who would always post their ads on my page for me to come and have a look at their new poem or whatever, and like a good little soldier, I would march over and read or look, post, thump up, you know the routine. Well I noticed today that this same person has never commented on anything I’ve ever done, and when I saw their ad on my page I just deleted it without going to look. THEN it hit me like a slap in the face, what wrong motives I was having, as if the only reason I was looking at theirs, was so that they would look at mine, then I was doing it expecting reciprocation, and not just out of the kindness of my heart or sincere desire to see what else they had done. On reflection, I hurried over and had a peek, posted and thumbed up and hope to nip that motive in the butt, quickly as I don’t like being like that. Have any of you ever felt like that? Like I’ll scratch your back IF you’ll scratch mine? It’s really a selfish motive and one I don’t like to admit that I owed it myself this morning. :( Sorry

I used to be very sensitive and then I moved to hell. I kid you not after a year of crying I turned into Mrs.Bitch USA and I am much better at it than I ever anticipated. haha!

Hmmm.. Don't get me wrong, I don't read poetry so people will read mine and I will read others randomly, when I have time or can just sit still long enough to read it. I enjoy reading poetry. Stories not so much. I really don't care if anyone reads mine. You have to admit some of the advertising is annoying. I happen to be talking about Amber, She drove me nuts with the advertising.

Actually, it's a lot like my story "Shadows". I'm really proud of what I have so far, but I know that a lot of people just don't want to sit and read however many pages it is forever.

You're right, if somebody comments me asking me to read their bazillion page story and comment on how I like it, I'll do it when I have the time. But still, is that the right thing to do? I don't know. We all have 24 hours each day, but sometimes other things just have to come first. Like schoolwork. But I always try to take a look at what they've done.

No but I do want to! I love looking at other people's things!! It gives me inspiration, AND it could make somebody's day when they see that somebody really likes their work!!

I don't advertize because of this. I flat out stated that I'd be willing to take a look at whatever is advertized on my page when time permits, but that's the way that it works. "I'll rate and comment your stuff so you feel obligated to look at mine." If people enjoy looking at my stuff that's great, but I can't stand being an obligation when I just randomly go off and comment a lot of stuff in the poetry section.

you should only read them if you have a desire to. You can learn a lot about writing while reading others work but if you don't feel like it.. DON'T!

But I really need to start focussing more on the good things rather the bad. I have an 80 as a rating!! That's a lot of numbers!!! It really touches me though that so many people say they like what I've done. You don't even have to have to person added as a friend, though I add them after they've rated me because then they ARE my friends, but most of the time I just click on random pages and take a look at their stuff and rate or comment it.

Thanks!...I'm not saying that it doesn't still hurt my feelings a little bit when I don't get any comments or anything, but that's not what matters. I feel good when I go and take the time to read other people's things and I know that's what I should do.

That's the best most respectful way, and most will read yours if they see you've taken the time to read theirs. you go girl!!!

I've never asked anybody to comment or rate my stuff...I always look at theirs though when they comment my page and ask..I guess it would be sort of selfish to expect them to rate you up whenever you do for them, but I honestly don't do that. I want people to read my stuff or look at my pictures and give me the truth about it, even if that means they don't want to rate it or leave a comment. I don't ever want to be so full of myself that I think my ratings should be really really high...I've only got about 79 as my rating! But if that's what people think about what I've got to say, to draw, or to write about, so be it.
