Religion in schools is still an issue so what's your take on it?

Not many people are aware of this, but a schoolteacher in Vt. stirred up some controversy when he passed out a handout around Christmastime that titled:Why Jesus is better than Santa Claus. Parents were outraged that they felt that the boundaries were crossed and the seperation between church and state were violated. Why, after all this time, is religion in school still an issue?? I'm a christian and sad to see that parents are upset by this handout and feel their rights are being violated. What about the teacher's rights and the students who appreciated the handout?

People get offended to damn easy these days. Grow up some and quit bitching just because you don't get your way.

No. It's in the constitution that you have the freedom to practice your own religion.

In I think Georgia, there is a school, that for the first time, allowed bible classes in a public school. Something like that, memory is fading. This happened..last year?

No. Annoying, but not illegal. The teacher is not advocating or forcing beliefs on anyone. And the student made objection, though her actions were inappropriate.

Keep in mind the difference between faith and "organized religion." I one day hope to see faith and state existing co-operatively.

Yeah. There is this one teacher who was listening to the radio and changed the station and accidentally left it on rock 108, then later she heard it she was like oh what is this satan's music? It wasn't even that bad of a rock song but to her it was. Then she turned it off and started singing christian music. Is that not against the law?

What about the teachers rights? Or the students rights? I never heard the argument that not allowing religion in school is a violation of someones rights. Religion is kept from public schools because allowing religion to be taught in public school would make our government lean toward being a theocracy. God already liters our currency and court rooms(if someone doesnt believe in god then the oath really doesnt mean diddly). It used to keep the government from having a say on whos got a ticket to see the big man upstairs. People will do crazy things to get salvation(pay for it, kill for it). Religion is a system of control, kneel, stand, kneel, stand. You can live on your knees, i'd rather die on my feet.

But you have to realize that some people don't believe in a god or gods.

i blame the parents on this one.... if it weren't for america's completely and overly offensive nature, things like this wouldn't happen. obviously, things like this shouldn't be handed out in school, seeing as that type of question is more of a philosophical question than anything... but still. i don't understand the seperation of church and state. if only all the religeons realized that they are all one in the same, they are just in scattered groups with diffent names for god... we wouldn't be in this predicament...

They have their rights to be outraged when they feel that their rights have been violated. Parents who happened to not be christians may not have wanted their children to read the handout. That's why there are boundries between religion and state. There always will be. To take away those boundries is like forcing those students to listen to a faith that they may not even believe in. Which is against our rights...
