Why?

Why does everyone one judge me because im "emo"...Whats the big deal about emo people, I meen, why do people see us as "freaks"? People that have never talked to or met and "emo" person is talking about how stupid they look and there just looking for attention! I'm personally getting tired of it. Have you ever walked through the hallways and everyone is talking about you and your friends? It starts to hurt after awhile..Whats your opinion on this? Why?

I agree. Having a certain label, doesn't make one better then everyone else. It isn't just preps, or emos that do this. I've seen people who have labeled themselves as being 'weird', 'outsiders', or 'mavoricks', thinking they were better then everyone else because of it.

I guess a bitch/asshole is a bitch/asshole, no matter how you package it.

No need to flaunt the labels though... I mean I understanding falling under a certain label, that's just life, but using that label as a way to get attention, and something else to whine about, that drives me crazy...

Everyone has a label, a way of identifying themselves. Even if one doesn't like labels. 'Outsider', 'loner', even those are labels.

Well, the topic is worn out to start from... its... the rule of the "powerful" "preps" = "normal"... even thou I hate labels, why is that like it? because most young people are preps,if more then 60% of the young population were "emo" they would be considered normal,at least thats my view, but about labels,I never really understood why search for differences and changing them, rather then accepting them,we are all people,as much as that bad may be.but labeling is dividing... why divide?

"I'm such a non-conformist, I'm not going to conform with all you other non-conformists."

Conforming to a common stereotype, and being in a group of people who are alike, are two different things. 'Scene' is a label, we all have labels. Whether you wear it, or conform to it, are two different matters. The 'scene' kids I know, don't conform to it. They're just being who they want to be. Why should they change, because people regard it as 'conforming?' Wouldn't that be conforming as well?

Some people, from every group, do conform. Others don't, they're just being themselves. You can't apply a generalized statement to everyone and expect it to stick.

Well I was pretty much always an outsider and loner in school. I never understood why everyone wanted to be the same and put themselves in 'cliques'. I was always proud to just be different from everyone else. You might think scene kids don't conform, but the pure fact that you just called them all 'scene' kids puts them all in a group and stereotypes them as basically the same people. The fact that they're all so-called scene kids proves my point. They conform to being 'scene' kids. Whatever that is. Seems to me like that would be conforming to a group or stereotype, where there are people just the same as them.
