Holiday Traditions

So what Holiday traditions do you have? I.E. Do you have a real or fake tree? What types of foods do you eat? Do you wrap your gifts in a certain way? Yada, yada, yada...

We have a real tree that we decorate with tons of hand made ornaments. We get the tree with our aunt, whose not really an aunt, just really close. We go to grayling to my grandmas house for christmas with my dads side of the family. we have christmas with my moms side of the family (my mom has 7siblings) so i have like 14 cousins. we do a gift exchange on my moms side but me and my sister are the only kids on the other side of the family so we get spoiled by our grandma lol. But we wrap all of our gifts saying from santa yet..cause my sister still believes..

Hmmmm well. We all used pile to my grandparents, until we lost my grandfather and my nan found it too painful. So after that we would go to my parents or my in-laws. Since my marriage break up I find holidays suck. I expect I shall spend this Christmas the same as last. Avoiding relatives who chose to cosy up to my ex, and sitting in by my Christmas tree with my cats. HAHA.

on thanksgiving we watch the parade, eat, then dig out the tree n decorations for christmas n put them up. but we would do the whole house, yard, garage, etc..so it took a couple weeks. and ummm we'd ride around later in the month to look at christmas lights =]

Holidays are scary around here. 4 trees, 20 some stockings, hundreds of hand made decorations (not kidding) every wall lined in garland and lights… the whole house is decorated until it resembles a lighted gingerbread house. We have at least 4 open houses...roughly one a week so we constantly have tons of guests in black tie dress waltzing around. My mother has to relive the glory days of her entertaining and cooks for a week straight, so the house is lined in tables covered with holiday food ranging from homemade eggnog, roast turkey, Hebrew olive soup, Kahlua and rum cakes to a bar, and every sweet you could imagine including her traditional mass of various holiday cookies. In her thinking Christmas is only as good as how many presents are under the tree which at times makes me glad I’m an only child otherwise she would spend us into bankruptcy….so Christmas is normally defined by having the entire living room overrun with presents. I think the only holiday tradition I appreciate is volunteering at the Festival of Trees and serving Christmas dinner to the homeless in the evening. It’s the only time during December I don’t feel awkward. Haha but there it is!

We build a bonfire behind our house at night and sit around and talk and cut up on Christmas. Its almost like a time to reflect over the year because we swap stories about things that happened and catch up on what all has been going on in the family.
