Why have parents gotten lazy?

Today parents seem to not really want to get involved in their childs life or when they do try to take a part in their life they almost force it, making it seem uncomfortable for the child to talk to them. Parents need to make a better effort into being both a friend and parent. Parents today are either a parent or best friend, rarely both..why is that?

as a mom, i let my kids know i'm there for them. if they want to talk about anything,i will listen. then i will ask then if they want my opinion. But it is hard to be both friend & parent. you want to protect ur child from harm,but u have to let them go to learn. not only is it hard on the child,but it's hard on the parent. i am a single mom, so i have to be mom,dad,& friend! so i give them there space,but they know i'm there if they want me!
