racism is unfortunately a part of our history, and probably it should be remembered as it was a means to an end of the progression of our thinking, and our growth with discrimination
i don't really give it too much thought, but if we are going to remove its standing just because it has racist undertones in its symbolic nature, we might as well change the name of our country, and take down the washington monument while we are at it, all had to do with unfavorable race relations
the rebel flag doesn't represent slavery, it only represents pride for those whose ancestors died fighting for what they believed in. the civil war wasn't even about slavery. it was about states rights just as i support the "come and take it" flag flown by texans trying to win independence from mexico i support the confederate flag.
i think that's the dumbest thing. and no, i am nowhere near redneck-hick, and im nowhere near racist either. the confederate flag simply shows the pride we have of being from the south. i was born and raised in tha "durrty durrty" and proud of it. do i go around flaunting the flag? no....but the people who do promote the flag have every right to. it's more of a "north vs. south"-thing. and people think it's a "white vs. black"-thing. and it's not even like that....
Because welfare is littered with racists on both sides of the argument, where the blacks wanted it gone and the drunk rednecks wanted it to stay. Great world eh? I wonder if they lynch each other for checks.
