"Under 18 need not apply" ...agree?

"Under 18 need not apply! No offense to you youngins, I like talking to adults more..." One said on his/her starting page. One replied this way: "i think its silly you said under 18's need not apply, whatever differences there are, i could hold a deeper and more adult conversation better than most adults and im 15. so pah. and whats the difference between 17 yrs old and 18?" ...Well, I do not question about the motivations behind this choice, but let me say something about the "method". If the aim was to warrant with a certain degree to talk with someone with "adult thoughts", well, the method is statistically correct: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_I_and_type_II_errors It is said that you always can committ an error in your choice, if you put a limit. But, if you put the limit too high (25 years) you can committ more Error II (exclude younger people with adult thoughts), but if you put it too low (14 years) you committ more Error I (include too many "kids"). It depends on your aim! :)

Betty, more or less... But: 1- the point was that's impossible to make a choice without the possibility to committ errors; 2- a lot of people is not aware about what's behind the language they use (writing, speaking and READING); 3- I was curious, to see how many people may understand a dissociation between a correct method, and a bad content. "And the winner is": the bad content, nobody even realized that there was a method, too.

I have to go now. I'll read your replies tomorrow, and if you all still have doubts, do not hesitate to ask (also by email). Bye!

"choose what?" The person that wrote "under 18 need not apply.." and the other one that said "I think its silly.." They were discussing about a problem. Person1 had a goal "I want mature conversation", and put it into a rule: "under 18 need not apply". I want you to look at how he/she achieved the goal. And that, he/she cannot avoid a certain probability to committ errors, buy putting such a rule. Ever noticed this issue, in my comments, or in the comments by the people?

It wasn't me: I didn't say it, 'cause I'm not 15. Jessi610 did (she's 14, look at page 9 on this convo), not me.

let me ask you this oh I could be so wrong but here goes..Did you write this thread in reply to something you read on someone else's page and you were saying your 15 and have better adult convo than most adult? Somehow ppl started replying to it as it were saying this and that's were all the confusion began?

Well, a min later I said: "I was NOT ONLY testing a theory", that means: "yes, i was testing a theory, but this is not my main point, that consists in making people think about what's beside their choices." Is it clear now? But I do not think that my English was so bad...
