Growing Up

Dear Mother,

I’m not a little girl anymore

I won’t run to you for cover

I’m sorry if your is heart sore

But I really need my space

I don’t need to be protected

I wish you’d get off my case

I’m sorry if you feel rejected

Don’t worry, I still love you

with all of my heart

but don’t stick to me like glue

I can take care of myself, i’m smart

I wish you’d get a clue

and learn to trust me

I’m trying to tell you I’m growing up

If only you could see

tswieberg Moms don't like to let go and they will always worry. It is hard to watch the child that you gave birth too and nurtured grow up. I speak from experience...and if something tragic or scary has happened to your child then you hang on tighter. One of my 15 month old twins, Rebecca, just got a big bead lodged in her throat two days ago and she couldn't breath, she had blood coming out of her nose. Can you imagine the terror a parent feels? Parents hold on because they care about you...there comes a time when they have to let go and let you make your own decisions. I understand that you need room to grow into a young lady...be happy that your mom cares. I love your poem and I am sorry I wrote a book....I probably sound like your mom.
