Hope Is A Thing With Feathers |
Hope Is A Thing With Feathers
Hope is a thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings atune withoout words
And never stops at all.
And sweetest, in the gale, is heard
And sore must be the storm.
that could abash the little bird
that keeps so many warm.
I've heard it in the chillest land
And on the strangest sea
Yet, never, in extremity
It ask a crumb of me.
It was many and many years ago
By the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
She livedwith no other thought
than to love and be loved by me
There were feathers, feathers falling from the sky
By the Sea,
But we loved with a love that was more thenlove
With a love that winged separhs of heaven.
And this was the reason, that long ago,
By the Sea,
A wind blew out a chilling wing
My beautiful girl whom you may know
The angel, not half so happy in heaven,
went envying her and me.
Yes!--that was the reason
As all men know she is beautiful
By the Sea,
That the wind came out of the cloudby night.
But our love it was strongerBy far than the love
of those who were older than we
of many far wiser than we--
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nir the demons downunder the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul of the beautiful girl
And the stars never rise, but i feel the bright eyes of the beautiful girl
And so, all the night-tide,
I lie down by the side
of my darling--my darling--
Never were thr feathers fall there
By the Sea,
In her soul by the sounding sea,
when soft voices die
Roses leaves, when the rose is dead,
For the beloveds bed,
Love itself shall slumber on.
