Fighting the Snake

I was young.

I was innocent.

I was incorruptable.

Then influences arose.

More profane words.

Dirty jokes.

At first, I ignored them.

I found no interest in these influences.

But soon I gave in.

Gave in to the need to be recognized.

To have friends.

At first, it was subtle.

A somewhat profane word now and again.

A dirty joke every once in a while.

But it got worse.

I lost interest in what I used to enjoy.

Clean jokes lost their humor.

Fortunately, this was only at school.

However, like all beasts, it can not be contained forever.

Soon, a profane word reached home.

I thought nothing of it.

I didn't do anything about it.

I just let it happen.

Soon, it got worse.

My behavior is violent.

My humor is perverted.

Then, I take a look in the mirror.

I see me.

The real me.

And I know I have to do something.

With God as my witness, I WILL fight the snake.
