A Military Poem

A Military Poem

G.I. clothes cover my frame

I wear these tags and bear my name.

We march to war with pride and sorrow,

To fight today and die tomorrow.

At brink of Heaven or Hell,

Who will fire that fatal shell?

Oh Lord above we pray to thee,

Deliver us from this bloody sea.

Our journey ends back in the States,

This is our story and our fate.

The taps have sounded- the rifles fire,

A folded flag and a G.I. retires.

G.I. clothes  cover my frame

On the marker bears my name.

After today who will think of me?

Gone... forever are we.

DEDICATED TO ALL THE SOLDIERS

RichardFulk That was a touching poem, I am a Honorably discharged Navy Vet myself, thank you.

quake2007 I just wanted to say thank you for supporting me and everyone else in the military. It's hard to find people that actually support out loud instead of people that act like they do. So thank you from Alaska and soon to be Iraq. The poem is great by the way.
