If you saw me on the street
sitting in a desolate corner, cold and alone
would you ignore me and walk on by
   or would you wonder
who I am, where I'm from, why I'm even there?
Would you spare a moment of your precious time
to look at this faded two-year old
newspaper I drew so painstakingly careful on
with from the trash, a charcoal black
cracked fragment of chalk-
Would you wonder what I drew?
Here, I'll tell you. It's a picture
of my sister, my mother, both the same person
We were together once,
but one day she disappeared-
   Have you seen her?
Yes, her eyes are crooked,
her hair stiff and sharp,
mouth sad and tired
with a streaked face and rough skin,
her clothes ripped and filthy
Two years ago, she ran away
Those two years sitting here, I've waited
for her to come and get me
I'm certain she will because I'm
staying
  right
   where
she'll find me.
   Have you seen her?
