Like a jewel

Sitting in a vast desert,

Is the island upon the ocean great.

Ignored is seems,

For nobody comes to sit in the shade of its big tree,

Though ships pass back and forth.

No birds or animals have ever been on this untrodden island,

To drink from the fresh pool of water,

Or eat the lush grass and seeds.

Patiently it waits

Like the rock of ages,

In the swirling ever moving sea.

Its flowers wither and die then grow anew.

But still the island continues,

Waiting for someone to come and appreciate its majestic beauty.

Then one evening a ship, small and sleek,

Was ripped apart by a storm at sea,

And was thrown upon the shore.

The island could not help the broken ship,

Until a person crawled out and laid on its warm sand.

In the morning,

The person found the tree and its shade,

Also the pool with its water

Cool and clear.

Appreciated is the island now
