Lone Soldier

His Breath is quick & shallow,

His eyes are filled with fear,

His palms are hot & sweaty,

He knows that he is near,

He is walking through the forest,

Stepping lightly on the ground,

Warily looking each way,

Then he hears a sound,

The bullet flies through the air,

He tightens his grip on the gun,

The bullet barely missed him,

So he breaks into a run,

He knows not from where it came,

So he shoots into the trees,

Now only the sound of his footsteps,

But he dares not to freeze,

Heart pumping wildly,

He knows not which way to go,

Another gunshot is fired,

His pace begins to slow…..

….. He falls to his knees,

His blood covering the snow.
