Lost in the Dark

I was a dreamer dreams of love
And all the problems it could solve,
But once the truth came clear to me
No longer could my heart roam free.

I cannot see the way ahead,
The moon is gone,
The stars are dead,
There is a sinking sense of dread,
What lurking threat has darkness bred?

I walk a dark and dreary road
Where jagged rocks break weary bones,
The night is black,
The air is cold,         
I am so very far from home.

This crooked path is old and used
Its followers are all confused,
It twists and turns,
And leads astray,
The wanderers who've lost their way.
