Life’s a Drag

As I close my eyes and lay down to rest

Wouldn’t you know it, the door bell rings

So I rise from my man made coma

As that stupid bell continues to sing

I run down the stairs, tripping over my feet

"I'M COMING!!", I shout toward the door

I step on a toy, it lets out a squeak

And I go flying head over heels to the floor

Gosh damn that squeaky toy! That tricky little boy

I shrieked, as I opened the door to the man in blue

His eyes look at me apologetically, while my soul

Began to cry as I received news only heard by few

They found your husbands body at a local motel

I was in complete horror, and felt such pain

“This couldn't be happening! Not to me!”

I cried on his shoulder, as I went insane

He was bloody and beaten, and dressed up in drag

“How can this be, this can't be true!!!”

I kept repeating myself, over and over again

Like those in distress often do

I have been living a lie, and he always knew

“What am I supposed to tell our son?”

The truth, for sure, he would not understand

But I have no choice, what's done is done

Trying my best to compose myself

I bid the officer good-bye

Silently I close the door

And hang my head to cry

My son appears asking Mommy what's wrong?

I turn my head to try and fake a smile

Desperately I struggle to reclaim my composure

I tell him to ask mommy after a little while

He looks at my face, and he knows I'm not strong

I see his expression, he got from his father

Then he smiles & tells me, “mommy do not to cry”

In his sweet little voice that affects me like no other

He takes his small fingers, to wipe away my tears

He looks me in the eye as he puts his hand in mine

“Don’t tell me now, let’s just both get some sleep”

With his words of comfort, I knew we'd be fine

As we closed our eyes and lay down to rest

Wouldn’t you know it, the door bell rings…
