One Too Many

The night was dark,

Pitch black if you want to be specific,

There wasn't a glimpse of the moon,

So the trucker didn't see him at the corner,

A single beer is one too many,

I am telling you this because that man hit on that corner,

He was my husband,

Paramedics gathered around the scene,

Many shaking their heads,

Many wearing a single mask called death,

Red and white lit up that corner that night,

And sirens pierced the blackness,

They had to hold me back,

Or else I would've been there next to you,

I would've been there when you were struggling for breath,

I would've been there when the darkness stole your mind,

You soul,

And your life,

He had been drinking that night,

And decided to walk home instead of drive,

He said no to many rides,

And he was only fifty feet from the house,

On our corner,

On the night you died,

He was my husband,

And one beer is one too many...

srry if the colors clash. :D
