Once A Road

By: Justin Trigg

I have dirt on my shoes from a previous past

An old road an older world forgiven and blamed

I laugh at the award of a former race I came in last

On one day I was given to fire to which I’m named

On that road I traveled once

I refused myself

One time walked only once

I would lose my health

A decision to which I would not take twice

I chose a new life one in where I fall not apart

The only thing I can’t choose once I call it nice

I can travel these highways to fulfill this heart

On that road I sealed a fate

I lost my soul

Once in a lonely twist of fate

I could make me whole

Four ways an intersection I’ve come too before

This time I came close to another gloomy end

I went down the alter path where I could take more

This street has lights and a tunnel to find a friend

Twice and once I failed

I can control my hate

It took only once when I failed

Now I choose another fate
