Crippled Leg

By: Justin Trigg

Never try to follow me

Whisper faint until I’m free

Can’t walk when you’re tired

Can’t sit with being wired

I’m never late for the job I’m fired

Shake hands with a cast in place

Have to stop by the end of the race

Walk around with a crippled leg

Searching for change I often beg

Walking thin in time worn shoes

Avoiding the life embracing the noose

I’m dirty poor and crippled not fine

Staring blank across the line

She starts to yell and passes the torch

Tells me back away from the porch

Wasteful and sleepy I drown on please

Wounded leg I can’t drop to my knees

Taking a break from my new disease

Running away when I’ve crippled myself

Another portrait I need off my broken shelf

Walk around with a crippled leg

Searching for change I often beg

Walking thin in time worn shoes

Avoiding the life embracing the noose

I’m dirty poor and crippled not fine

Staring blank across the line
