Mistaken |
Fallen
I clutch the rope
I feel the grooves of age,
Rough beneath my palms.
I hang midair.
My only support,
In the rope.
I see you reach out.
Beckoning me.
You hold out your hand.
You promise to catch me.
I shy back in fear.
I know the rope,
It’s comfortable.
But I feel my grip weakening,
I give you my hand.
You clasp mine in yours,
And pull me to safety.
Suddenly,
You let go.
The rope gone,
I fall.
My worst fear confirmed.
